Nothing better than the nostalgic smell of
castor oil from a 2 stroke. I don't even know if that's a thing anymore, but when I was a kid it sure was. |

The karting guys got the castor oil thing from the bike crowd, I think. It wasn't the fast way around the track. I used synthetic 2-stroke oil before I could explain what it was.
This is the story No smell and not a trace of carbon on the piston at tear down. |

My old Ala Kart Slingshot.. Twin MC7's with direct drive. Loud as hell and beat a new GTO in a drag (up to about 60 when it ran out of revs). You started it by picking up the back end and running a bit then jumping in and hitting the gas pedal. One of my buddie's dad worked in construction and could get 5 gallon cans of nitro so we ran that with Castrol. Long time ago. The thing could do wheelies with new slicks. We ended up burning the pistons and my dad said that was the end! Dang! But I remember that sweet smell of the Castrol.

Yeah, you probably weren't jetted for nitro even though the main and idle jets were screws. We used to use toluene but it tended to run hot. I can't imagine how hot nitro was.
There used to be a mixing oil that contained 'oil of mirbane' which is nitrobenzene. When racing and fuel being tested, it failed. Fast though. The model airplane guys had some exotic fuels. |

I have a 2T dirt bike. Husqvarna version of a KTM 300. I love the bike. Light. Plenty of power. But, I really don't care for the smoke/smell.

I have a friend who use to race a D-Sport racer in SCCA and he would add a small amount of caster oil to his mix so it would give off the smell that everyone loves.

So t's castor oil?
I know when I watch motocross, or some guy has a full blown race bike on the Distinguished Gentleman's Ride, that someone has that cool smelling race fuel or oil. |

BK911 That FL350R should be lots of fun. I did a bunch of laps on a track in the older FL250 years ago when they first were out and remember wanting one, it did through you around a lot if I remember right. Miss the smell of Bel ray MC-1, I should pick some up for the line trimmer.

Some 2T oil smells like berries, some of the kart guys run it. We use Amsoil Dominator or Intercepter in our bikes and karts.

Made from castor beans. I was trying to find some castor oil a few years ago to run in my lawnmower and I found that I could get it in 55 gallon drums from a group out east that flys old WWI airplanes. Needless to say, I didn't buy a drum.
Years ago I rode bikes with a guy who had a Suzuki 750 water buffalo and another with a 3 cylinder Kawasaki. Both left a trail of smoke where ever they went. |

Awesome I revived a 250 for a customer a few years ago. It was better than I expected. We picked up an original one owner banchee from a customer and reviving it now. Never rode one but we are pretty excited about it.

I love that smell! I raced a kart with a single McCulloch chain saw engine with 2 carbs running alcohol and castor oil. I was 14. Friend’s dad helped me with it. I loved racing but my dad wasn’t interested so it didn’t last long.

I use Motorex and now Amsoil as my 2t oil. Just bought something new (forget, no matter). They are all synthetic. Never ran the Castor bean stuff. People do love Klotz and similar.
And for Unclebilly, I have seen a serious decrease in Dirtbike prices in the last 4 months. Discretionary income is down, or supply is up or ??? Prices went NUTS during covid but they are approaching a more sane level. Buddy just got a steal on a new Gas Gas. Not sure the US vs Canada pricing models. |

Nothing like the sound of a big bore stroker crank 2 stroke Banshee. Stock is 350cc's and I was at 404.
I named it White Lightening. Oregon Dunes make for a great playground. ![]()

Castor is excellent in the right application. Think high engine loading. It also provides some combustion energy. It will also mix with alcohols.
