real life "cable guy". kinda.
I didnt want to mess up Rockfan's retirement thread. (go for it if you have a plan, Rockfan)
we had an office admin lady. she ran the show. competent. sure. but she had a bad side. she would interrupt anyone's conversation. it was "her way or the highway". we all tiptoed around her, mostly because she was elderly, and she because she knew where all the bodies were buried. if you interrupted her, she would go ballistic. haha..she once interrupted me talking to my bosses and I tried to stop her, and she said, "don't interrupt me!! that is rude!". hahah.. SHE wouldn't let us say the word, KEY-FOB. because she felt FOB was racist. (haha..I'm Chinese, and I was cool with it). anyways, she retired. we effen PARTIED! sure things will suck a bit as we run out of supplies. till the new person gets the routine down, etc. we gave her a great send off. food trucks showed up and cooked for us. she accepted gifts, warm speeches, goodbyes, hugs. oh, she was a hoarder. her desk area looked like a BS warmed over. she retired, but kept her office key to remove her stuff. this is going on for 3 months now. her direct supervisor is a fool. technically he isn't her supervisor anymore. SHE is still working!! no internet access..but she is into everyones business. I don't go in anymore. I am uncomfortable as hell. she asks me for stuff, and I say, "no you no longer work here, enjoy your retirement". she goes off on me, or cries. 3 months. this is miserable. her and I are toxic to each other, because I am trying to hold company policy. she can't go rummaging thru our supply closets anymore or drive company vehicles. moving heavy boxes..if she hurts herself, I'll find myself in a deposition in court. Cable guy! she told me, "your not one of my bosses anymore!" I replied, "none of us are any of your bosses anymore". she cried. I went to my other office. in another city. RockFAN4. please have a plan. I won't retire until my $$ is lined up, and I have a retirement life-plan in place. circle of friends, hobbies, etc.

There is a fine line between compassion and idiocy. The pendulum has swung to full idiocy here.
They need to grow a pair and send her home. She'll probably sue them, saying she was working.... In an opposite vein, I left a job once when my employer hired another person to do my job, and I was promised 'a new role'. I didn't like what they offered me, so I just stayed home every day. It took them six months to stop paying me. Best summer ever.

Get off my lawn!

I have always worked for small family owned companies. The place I worked for over 25 years was run by the husband, but his wife insisted on working there, mostly to throw her weight around. On a scale of 1 to 10 on her knowledge of photography she was a 0.5, yet she tried too tell me how to do my job, and she was flat out wrong. The first week of working there, I went to the boss-owner, closed his door and asked point blank, who is the real boss, you or her? He made it clear it was his business. I then explained how his wife had TOLD me do do a project and just what was wrong with her instructions. He understood and he said the magic phrase to me, "Just ignore her" she can't fire you, only I can, and I like your work. After that she often was telling me how to do my job, and I just ignored her, and even closed the darkroom door in her face, process film, and 40 minutes come out into the light and she was there like a terrier yapping away, and I just ignored her totally. She finally learned she could not intimidate me, and she tried to get me fired, and the boss said hell no.
My happiest day was when her son's wife had a baby, and the boss's wife stayed home to take care of the baby. I worked there for over 25 years before digital photography killed the photo lab business, and drove a lot of very talented photographer out of business. Now silver halide photographic processes photography is just a thing for hobbyist.

Funny story, but not that uncommon. The office was her home and life. She must not have had a plan after working. Many people are that way, and they work until they die - and it's not about money usually.
You need an electronic lock system, so access can be changed with the flip of a switch. There are some really good videos on YouTube regarding preparation for retirement, before and after. And what to expect.

3 months is just wrong. It's the fault of the State to not correct this. I'll write to your representative and senator if you like. You have some real 'fools' in your agency.

Somebody should tell her boss (or someone higher up the chain) that if he doesn't take control of this matter
she could be the next disgruntled ex-employee with 150 rounds to spray all over that office.
