The Chili Bowl is a really cool little slice of Americana. Time and space preclude my going into the whole thing here, but it is worth reading up on this event. It's far more than just a race.
One of the unique aspects of the whole thing, for example, is that the town really doesn't have the hotel accommodations to put everyone up for the week. So, many of the racers, even the biggest names, simply stay with a local family in their home for the week. Lots of fun stuff like that.
