Well, I didn’t mean, install it through the existing valve stem hole, but breaking the bead somehow to install it. Then fill it back up. That way I can spend more money to replace a bent rim or damaged tire! 😂

With Ford TPMS sensors running at $50 each, the eBay specials at four for $40 have to be counterfeits. I can’t think of any parts like these, that I’ve ever bought off eBay, but a lot of people say they have used them in the past without problems.

I've got one of those manual bead breakers. Not Harbor Freight, I think it is Northern Tool, probably just about the same thing. If it's warm outside I can break the outside bead off the rim, hold the tire down with the bead breaker, and unscrew the old sensor and screw the new one onto the valve stem. This works with the 70 series tires on the truck. I don't think I would attempt it on the 50 series tires on the wife's car. She has two dead sensors now. I'm going to order a set off rock auto and have a tire shop install them. If they swap the valve stems at the same time, it's easy. The right tire machine will hold the side of the tire down, no need to dismount it all the way.

When she only had one dead sensor, I reset her car to use a new/used sensor, but never got around to getting it installed. It is sitting in her center console, if you pick it up and shake it, it will wake up, but then the system alarms that there's 0 psi in the left rear.

I think I will stick to my old cars that break down more often, but parts cost a lot less.

Soooo… I got another set that has the correct part number according to Ford. Instead of mounting them and trying to program them, I went through the procedure while they are still in the bag, but I could not get them to work.

Do they need air pressure to learn?

If the Ford sensors are like the GM sensors, they don't need pressure to activate. What tool are you using to activate the sensors?

I still have a GM sensor outside a tire, in my wife's center console. If you start the car it shows no sensor in the left rear. If you shake it, it wakes up and shows 0 psi. I wonder if you shake the Ford sensors they would wake up.

The Toyota ones need to be driven for a bit to be activated after resetting them.

Ok. I finally figured out…

Yesterday I turned the hazards off and on three times and but that’s for truck to relearn the existing TPMS sensors.

There’s a procedure with turning the ignition switch off and on three times, pressing the brake pedal and then cycling the ignition switch three times which sets the truck up to learn. I did this with each sensor labeled from inside the truck.

It worked. Now I need to get them installed.
