Jimny is the non-US name for Samurai which is no longer sold in the US due to a 1988 Consumer’s Report indicating the Samurai was at unacceptably high risk for roll overs. It effectively killed sales never to return. Suzuki sued in 1996 and after 8 years (2004) it was settled by mutual consent (dismissed without compensatory findings) out of court.

Subsequently Suzuki began selling them branded as a Sidekick or Vitara depending on the market.

The aftermarket for Samurais is enormous. An unmolested Samurai is becoming very, very rare. However, on the highway they are like driving a tin-can.

At the time of the CR issue, Samurais were outselling Jeeps by as much as 4 to 1 in some places. This is a 100% original 1987 save for the seats which are third row stow-and-go seats from a Dodge Town and Country van.

Roxors made by Mahindra who is being sued by FCA (Fiat Chrysler) for “trade dress” infringement, the Roxor essentially being a Jeep CJ clone. An Administrative Law Judge (ALJ) in November, 2019 issued a cease and desist order to Mahindra to stop sales. Mahindra appears to have ignored the order.

Lawsuit is pending.

I owned 2 Samurai's . One a white hard top like the blue one pictured above, and a dark blue soft top. I loved the things. When it needed a clutch, I dropped the transmission without a jack. It was so small you can do it by hand. Axle seals....piece of cake. Everything was easy. I dorve 52 miles round trip on the highway every weekday. Yeah, 65 is pretty much top speed unless going down a long hill. You learn to drive in the right lane. so all the others can drive what ever speed they want. No speeding tickets. Off-road, it was a beast. I could go so many places that the bigger boys could only dream of. The Samurai was a great little vehicle.

Lots of stuff like that in Japan. I took this pic in Katsuta in February:

I'm a big Land Cruiser fan and I bet every LC saw (mostly 60s and 80s) were modified. It seems like anyone who wants to go to the trouble to own something like that in Japan is the kind of person who is going to enjoy it and modify the crap out of it.

I looked at one closely at a fair last year.
A very poorly-made Jeep knock-off with a minor change to the grille.
Asked the sales dude about if it's street legal. "They're working on it".
It is such a piece of crap I can't see it ever getting DOT approval without a major redesign.

Absolutely no advantage over a Jeep, plenty of disadvantages.
To informed consumers, sales should be..... Zero.

A friend has one on order. each one is made up to the customers spec's. this will be his third Suzuki 4x4. He loved the other ones. With their short wheel base they can get to places other bigger ones can't. He said they also make good vehiles for getting about town in.

Those Suzuki Sidekick JLX's seem like a decent vehicle. Were they a precursor to the Vitara? Also I think Geo Trackers were a Suzuki offspring.

I saw the Jimny in the UK 2 years ago. I would rather have a Jimny than a Roxor. Not that I have anything against Mahindra ( I have a very nice Mahindra tractor that I have been beating the snot out of for over ten years...without a single issue), I just like the Suzuki better.

Nobody knows why the N is backwards?
There must be a reason why.

Lower case, in sort of a stylized cursive font.

(My typography background is telling me that there's too much space between the m and the n, too.)
