Arnold (from the pig on Green Acres) and Peanut .... not their real names ![]() I don't know why .... ya get called the name once ... and it lasts a lifetime. Fred .... from Sanford & Son .... I think it was Grady who said it... "Fred, Fred ol' cabbage head" ![]() Don't ask about the others ![]() |

My Brother-in-law who passed away, (2 years ago tomorrow), always called me "Marty the Wayward Party". I asked him why he called me that and he said it was because wherever I went I always had a good time. Rest In Peace Kevin, Miss ya Bro!!!

T-square because I was the square kid in technical drawing.
Then I was called lucky legs - lucky they don't break (tall very skinny legs). |

"Tripod." But then my legs grew...
![]() Actually, I've always been just "Higgy" or "Higgs". I had very unimaginative friends. There were a lot of things they could have called me. Good thing I was bigger than most of 'em, even my own "big" brother.

They used to call me "Doc" in the Army (the standard for a medic). I must admit it felt rather good.
I never had a nickname before that.

Dad called me Skirtch when I was little as I made tire squealing noises every time we rounded a decent corner. Then he called me Sir George in elementary school. Fred by some classmates in jr high and high school. That was because of some girl mis-hearing my name and it stuck. Big Red by some cousins as I was a decent sized guy with red hair.
Couple that won't pass the censors here.

Scout camp on the U.P. at 12i. Crew cut(almost shaved) and skeeter bites all over my near hairless head. Bumps everywhere as I react badly to skeeters. Started calling me Marblehead as it appeared that my marbles were popping out of my head. Name not only stuck but spread from scouts to school that Fall. Initially fought it but eventually just accepted it as, everybody, even the scoutmaster, called me Marblehead. I even had my mom paint a guy with a marble for a head on my canoe paddle before subsequent trips. (That was my last summer crewcut by my father)
There are still a few folks that call me Marblehead, Marble or Marbles when I see them and it has been 60 years.

At high school I started calling my friend Keith Oscar. Because he did look a bit like Oscar.
I saw him many years later and he said "YOU, even my parents introduce me as Oscar." |

Dad always called me Sport and he called my sister Princess. Mom always calls me her #1 Son, even though I am her only son. Lol.

I'm not sure that I ever had a nickname. I think when I was little, my dad called me "Stevo".
I also don't think I've ever had a nickname for someone else. I occasionally call my old boss "sunshine" because he's a grumpy, negative old man, and it caught on so that other people also occasionally call him that. Most of the time folks call him by his name.. That's probably as close as I've ever come to a nickname. Maybe it has to do with the fact that I moved around a lot as a kid, so didn't really grow up in one place with one group of local people. Maybe it also has to do with the fact that the folks that I did know and get close to for 2-3 years were generally limited (a few, <5, close friends, but probably only 2 or 3 with a couple/few more folks that I wasn't that close to but were always around due to proximity).
