Old age pensioner.

Hey young fella, that's no way to talk to an old age pensioner.

I'm busting to say that to one of my friends. I'm now an old age pensioner. I get nearly $500 a week from the government (Gum-mint)as a reward for having made it to 65 years of old age.

I don't know how I'm going to cope. That is a lot of money to drink my way through each week. I've cheated a little and been spending it by taking friends out for dinner - on the government. But it's a tough call.

Any more old age pensioners here and how are you getting on?

I've been an old age pensioner for almost twenty years now. I'm getting along OK, but I have to admit not as well as times past.

Consider yourself lucky Mr Bill. They upped the retirement age in Aus to 68! That's 9 years away for me.

All the best. Enjoy smelling the roses.

We shall call you the Reaper .... just don't be grim please ...

I've been collecting one of my corporate pensions since 2009, and started the gubment one (that I never even counted on) a couple years back.

Fruit$ .... produced by dilligence ... no worries.

I might be older now .... but I'm still younger than BD ... hope that doesn't change anytime soon either .

But it could....

Keep on keepin' on Bill .... you earned it too

I really miss the freedom that my working salary gave me but I have adapted my cost of living so that my basic expenses are covered by social security (our dole). Anything else is covered by my savings. Like a big blue tricycle.

I'm 9 years into retirement and I must say I'm doing all right.

+1 to Bill on the good wishes.

The dole is unemployment not a pension. You fill out a UB40 form and get a certain number of weeks pay from the gub ment for no job. British dole system.

On Youtube see Mo Money Mo Money Mo Money with Whiz and Ice from In Living Color to understand how the term gub ment is properly used.

I always wondered where this band's name came from then there was Google. Enjoy a little down time, Bill.

Congratulations, Bill D. I reached pensioner status a few days ago and like Steve says, it's great.

I have never received any dole from any government, I just paid the government all my life, and I still pay them income taxes. I did reach the official geezer age in the USA and I now receive some of my life long contributions in return from Social Security and they took over my primary medical insurance. I just pay for the suppliant. It ain't a ton of money I get back for a lifetime of payroll taxes, that funded my medicare insurance either.

I always feel a bit better knowing my grandmother only worked a few year during WW2 helping build C-47s for the war, but not after that. She was a full time mom, and homemaker. She was on Social Security for many years drawing my grandfathers SS payments.

Yea, it is nice to get up and decide what to do and when and have money appear in my account. I still work at my aerial photo company, but as the boss, I decide when to work and when to take time off.

Retired November 1st of last year. No pension for me - just SS and withdrawals from my 401K. I can manage on a monthly amount from both.

All the best Bill.

I believe semantics accounts for our difference.

In kindness, be reminded that correcting such trivialities is most discourteous. Presumably it was just a momentary lapse of your good manners.

Admitted thread drift...
What ticks me off is having to pay taxes on my SS.

What did you pay into it to get this amount? Is it the max?
Here we max out at $290/month contribution and collect about the same as you do at 65.

Double taxation to me. I thought that was against the law

It's hardly getting money from the government. It's more like getting YOUR money BACK from the government, and then you getting taxed on it for the second time.

I held off until 70 1/2 and now it's direct deposit. I never even see a check. It just melts into the pot that constantly boils off money.

I certainly don't consider it a dole regardless of any definitions to the contrary.
