Hepatitis A / B vaccination

Anyone here gotten these vaccinations?

I was on a call today for a guy that split his scalp open. We observed all blood protocols, but I still got a bit of blood on my boots. I didn't see it till I got home and started cleaning my boots. It wasn't much but it's got me thinking I should get vaxed.

I got the vax as a kid… but i also don’t partake in hedonistic activities to contract hepatitis…

Buuuuut, my first appointment at the VA resulted in a hep C test because it’s evidently common within the mil…

Throw some oxidizer on the boots and call it a day?

Boots are clean. My concern moving forward is the risk of future exposures.

I’ll clean this up.

Risk factors that you prolly already know

https://emedicine.medscape.com/article/784812-treatment#d10

Quote:

Postexposure Prophylaxis
After exposure to hepatitis B virus (HBV), appropriate and timely prophylaxis can prevent HBV infection and subsequent development of chronic infection or liver disease. The mainstay of postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) is hepatitis B vaccine, but, in certain circumstances, hepatitis B immune globulin is recommended in addition to vaccine for added protection. This page provides links to PEP guidelines and resources by type of exposure.

I’ve never had the hep immunoglobulin but I’ve had the rabies immunoglobulin… it’s not fun…

Risk stand point. If you’re at the tail end of your career, ect

Did you get bodily fluids on your skin/open cuts/eyes/ect?

No I was gloved and masked. It's a bit of a puzzle as to how I got it on my boots because the guy wasn't spewing blood and I didn't do the bandaging. I was monitoring his vitals in the ambo, His hands were covered in blood and our stretcher had some drops on it but again I was double gloved.

Yep, have to have it in my line of work.

Very high exposure risk.
Definitely get it my friend!

I got a hep shot in 2008 which I needed because I was traveling to Port Elizabeth, South Africa. I spent 3 weeks there. Got a few others as well. I kept my bodily fluids to myself and made sure I wasn't sharing anyone else's either.

I started the twinrix vaccinations when I was working overseas but didn’t get the last shot. Not sure if I’m protected or where to pick up the pieces…

Hep B is a series, 2 or 3 over a few months. Has provided durable protection for me. Checked my titer and it is still good. Hep B is bad juju

Hep A is food poisoning, more than blood borne. I wash my hands and am not worroedcabout Hep A
