Favorite canned chili?
My favorite is Wolf chili. Not sure it's available country-wide. Decades ago I had relatives in Texas that suggested it- but we lived in GA and it wasn't widely available. It seemed to have a mystique about it - similar to Coors beer prior to it being available widely. (I'm not and never was a big fan of Coors.)
Anyway - I'm curious what other canned chili brands are suggested. ![]()

I would think that parsing out all of the "issues" surrounding this question: beans or no beans?...would be akin to discussing motor oil preferences!
Beans? As for myself? I say...bring 'em on! |

I keep a few cans of this around for a quick bowl.

I actually had a can of the Wolf chili with beans today for lunch - which is what prompted me to ask for other brand recommendations!

I have had many brands, regional and national. Most/all are only good for "too tired to cook anything else" as long as you have onion and cheddar to put on top.
Definitely no beans but there's a hell of a lot of textured vegetable protein/soy/wheat/oats/filler in them all.

My mom won the blue ribbon for chili at the Oklahoma State fair with her chili. When I was young, I loved it, and ate lots of it. Just stirring the pot would make you break out in a sweat. It was full of real chili peppers. It did not burn your mouth, but from the back of your throat and ALL the way through you felt the burn. As I got older, I had to have a Maalox chaser with her Chili.
No beans in her chill, and that was several judges criteria. Adding beans is not real chili, it is just stew. Might as well add potatoes and carrots.

My favorite meal when I was in Basic Training was when they would have "chili over rice".

My dad was in the Navy in the '50s. He said they had corned beef hash on a slice of toast. They called it "Sheet on a shingle."

Cattle Drive from Costco isn't bad for canned chili.

Never tried Wolf. I usually have one or two of these in the pantry, for emergencies:

Yep - when we make homemade - that's the mix used! Never have used ground turkey though - beef only.

Ha, just made my own chili. Chili without beans (red kidney) is just meat in hot sauce ;-)
I would like to see the official rule book that says no beans. Last edited by 917_Langheck; 02-12-2024 at 06:11 PM.. |

Serene911 mentions Cattledrive - so I'll look for it at Costco- but I'm slightly concerned I'll have to buy 6, 8 or 12 cans just to try it out.
