Bourbon
Any bourbon drinkers here? I will usually buy Michter's or Bulleit (orange label), and I love Blanton's, but it's almost impossible to find here in PA. Any others out there that I should try? I've had a Basil Hayden (can't recall which one) and I wasn't a big fan.

I think I started a thread on Scotch a decade ago. Kentucky straight for me, but I seldom venture beyond wine.

Not much of a hard liquor sort of person but on the subject of Bulleit, it sure mixes well with ginger ale. Perfect summer drink.

Not a connoisseur of fine bourbon, but since one of my daughters unwittingly named her kid Evan Williams, I have been buying and drinking that brand of bourbon.
![]() It goes well mixed with Ginger ale or Dr Pepper and is not "terrible" on the rocks for a relatively cheap bourbon. Only better stuff I typically have on hand for guests is Knob Creek.

We took a tour of the Marker's Mark factory. It was interesting to see the production from raw grains, to a finished bottle. Then they took up into the tasting room.
They had the 5 different versions they make. From basic un-aged, "white lightning" to the super premium extra good stuff. I had not had a shot of bourbon or any hard booze in decades. My wife only tried the two most expensive ones, so I was forced to drink her leftovers. It was a Bus tour, so no driving for me. Then we went to the Jack Daniels factory. I have had nothing bet beer since that day. I prefer beer a thousands times more than any hard liquor.

The good stuff has become very hard to find-Eagle Rare etc. Reasonably priced 10yrs old. But anything from Buffalo Trace is in short supply.
Try Elijah Craig Small Batch. Around 35 bucks, 94 proof, very tasty. Blantons doesn't do it for me either. 86 proof, tastes watered down cause it is.

I guess I'm not terribly discerning. I usually buy a different bourbon each time - usually in the $30-$50 range. Murray Hill at $90 has been the most expensive that I've had, pretty good but not 2x-3x.better than my usual. I've had Woodford Reserve, Basi! Hayden, Four Roses, Bulleit, Elijah Craig, Angel's Envy and a bunch of others. Even within a brand there can be so many variations that my recommendation is to be daring and just try stuff.

Not ashamed to admit it…I really like Evan Williams 1783…Four Roses small batch is pretty good. Many of the “expensive bourbons” are not pleasing to my pallet.

While I seem to have incredible luck at finding Blanton's at $65/bottle (3 now in the last 2 years), I also like Woodford Reserve Double Oaked (worth the premium in my book) and Angel's Envy. Both of these are very nice either with ice or as an Old Fashioned. There are others I see at the liquor store with pretty bottles that call out but haven't researched them to see if they are worth plunking down $60+ for a bottle.
The double oaked Woodford is a lot better than standard Woodford Reserve IMHO.

Angel's Envy is good. There's an alternative if you can find it, Bowman Brothers Port Barrel finish, Angel's uses port barrels. Bowman's is Trace mash aged here in Va. $40 ish.

Im a huge bourbon guy my favorite would have to be Bookers but a close second is a batch made for the total wine Liqour stores not sure where they are located through out but it’s called Fiddler Georgia Heartwood batch. A great everyday one would be Buffalo Trace. Not a fan of the whistle pig varieties and sorry but my pallet thinks Blanton is way overrated.. It seems bourbons are very regional, when I travel I can easily find some that are impossible to find in Florida.

Angel's Envy has a beautiful distillery, downtown Louisville. If you are ever in the city, take a tour and tasting. Great way to spend a couple hours
