You mean "ranch dip" or maybe "ketchup" or what I often have these days is "chipotle mayo".

The fries have to be thin and fried to a good brown color.
Then dipped in mayo. Real mayo...not that miracle whip crap.

French fries get regular ketchup

Fried yuca, tostones, fried chicken etc get a about 50/50 mix of ketchup and mayo with garlic powder, black pepper, chili powder, and some hot sauce (I use sriracha)

In Idaho, they have fry sauce. They also have "Finger Steaks".

Half inch, twice fried Belgian fries cooked in beef fat.

Yes on real mayo but I like a separate pile of catsup as well for the tangy taste.

Walmart/Amazon has a Chic fil a dipping sauce I like.

Yup - Heinz for sure...but if you wanna get fancy - then its hard to beat Stonewall Kitchen's "Country Ketchup!"

But my very favorite is that which my wife makes - that she calls "ketchup," which actually tastes like something between ketchup and bbq sauce, is usable for either...and has a bit of a kick. Perfect!

Fries are ketchup delivery vehicles for the most part. Also love mayo, mixed mayo & ketchup, blooming onion sauce and so on. But freshly made truffle fries with parsley and Parmesan are excellent.

Heinz or DelMonte chili sauce. I don't know why they call it "chili" sauce because it's not hot and spicy. It's less sweet and more spicy that commercial ketchup, but not hot and chili like. We call it "ketchup for adults."

I used to make and can a dozen half-pints of my own ketchup during tomato season, but I've been too busy the last couple of years. I have one jar left from 2021.

I like ketchup or sour cream.

Some places have a sour cream based dipping sauce that gives it a bit more flavor; not sure about a recipe, but might be a good search starting word?

There was a restaurant on the other side of town that made a sort of potato chip that was softer than a normal chip- half way beyond fry and chip, was excellent dipped in sour cream. Unfortunately they took it off the menu at one point as well as the quality of other food going downhill, so I haven’t been back in years.

I'm not sure why it's called chili sauce either but it's perfect for a shrimp cocktail and makes great 1000 island dressing. Ketchup is for a Costco hot dog.
