Motor bike accident I may have caused but...
Wife b-day so kids wanted Brazilian BBQ (located in a crowded part of town). This is death by meat BTW, but a dang delicious dinner. Anyway, traffic was piling up but moving. I have been watching my mirrors to switch lanes when cars slow up to make right or left turn trying to avoid getting stuck in the long line of back up. We were all moving between 20-25mph. Left lane was clear for a block with a long gap of about 3 car length (keep in mind this is a busy part of LA so that's a lot or room). I pull out to take that spot and noticed a motorcycle horn beeping. Next thing I know, Motorcycle rider hits the car head on on the other side, goes flying.
I pulled into his spot but couldn't see anyone and it has been clear for a block or two with the same white car that has been there for the last three blocks. I realized he had crossed the double yellow to get around the slow moving white car he was behind and needed to come back in only I happened to take that space at the same time. He had no choice but hit that oncoming car. We all stopped and the lady in that white car told me/cop that the motorcycle went around her on the other side of the double yellow and I happen to pull into the opening. Motorcyclist looks to be a food delivery person with large soft bags scattered all over the road. Cops came, I gave my statement and he told us to move on. Thanks goodness that women was there to give her side of her story if not, I would have been screwed. What a dumb azz. Rider seems hurt after flying over the car but moving and breathing. It was a small, 125 or 250cc bike? Not sure if a larger bike would have made any difference? The young woman that hit the bike head on is really shaken up, crying on the sidewalk. I hope she is OK. What a mess. Last edited by look 171; 03-03-2024 at 10:29 PM.. |

You ride on the street, you increase your risk. Ride stupid? Even more so.

Stupid. My old cop friends would call them organ donors.

The rider was about 3' left of me when he made contact so I saw the entire thing. If I didn't stood on my brakes, I would have ran his azz over. My wife was shaken up a bit. I told her not to feel bad for idiots. They cause people emotional and financial harm because of their selfishness. After a couple of pieces of steaks, we forgotten about it and enjoy our death by meat.

You certainly didn't cause his accident. The motorcyclist chose to ignore the cardinal rule: Always leave yourself an out.
Glad the rest of the day went well. Best Les

Wow, glad you weren't directly involved in the collision/accident. You didn't cause anything, the rider doing something illegal and stupid caused the issue. Yes, probably lucky for you that the lady stopped to advise that the bike had passed here on the left of the double yellow. Hopefully, the guy recovers OK. This was likely a valuable, hopefully educational experience on the rider's side of things.

Like Les says you did not cause the accident but the motorbike's lack of visibility did not help and the rider was not being cautious. When I ride my mountain bike I try to avoid traffic as much as possible but the occasional car driver tries to run me over.
Anything that is not readily visible like a Miata is also problematic. When I owned one other drivers simply did not always see me. They sometimes changed lanes as if I was not there. My Boxster seemed to get more respect and seemed more visible. Yes a surprising number of people were traumatized in that one accident you encountered. No blame on your part. |

Those delivery riders on small motorcycles ride like fools; occasionally that catches up with them. Glad he did not hit your car.

Your description of the event sounds like my wife trying to describe how the lawnmower got in the fish pond.
If I understand correctly the biker crossed a double yellow line to pass someone and hit a car head on. That would be on him.

What kind of idiot crosses a double yellow line in ANY situation where traffic is heavy?

Bummer. Thankfully no one was seriously injured. Not your fault. NEXT.
About that Brazilian BBQ, Where was that? Getting meat sweats thinking about it.

hahaha, you serious? You Have a few on the west side. This place is called M grill. Near the corner of Wilshire and Western almost next to the old Wiltern theater. Their meats were really juicy, service was top notch.

![]() Hitting someone (or even animals) can "haunt you" even if it's totally NOT your fault and all on them.... like this was. I hope I don't have too pull up this BBQ thread anytime soon .... I'd prolly get hit by a car walking through Oklahoma on I-40 ![]() |
