Kindig seems like one of the good guys in the TV show car restoring business but what's up with super low profile tires on everything?

A930Rocket 03-05-2024 04:56 AM

^^^ Agreed on Kindig. From what I’ve read, he came from humble beginnings. I like watching his show.

They did several cars is a medium to light blue exterior with a beige interior and I really like that combination.

That Corvette is not doing it for me though.

Giant wheels and rubber band tires are the "cool" look for almost all the designers. All Foosed up. I bet in 15 to 20 years there will be TV shows of shops going back to more normal 18 in wheels and tires with a real sidewall. Those rubber band tires on oversize wheels can't handle the potholes on the average road.

And yea, Kendig seems too be a great guy and does great work, from exceptional quality employees.

Pretty hard to get 15” tires these days, 14” are ever more scarce.

Yeah, but 16, 17, and 18 are available. Everything doesn't have to be 19, 20, etc...

Zeke 03-05-2024 07:18 AM

That's a stain on the Ridler award.

JackDidley 03-05-2024 07:41 AM

The Falconer V12 rocks. I like the car except for the wheels. Wheels are an easy fix.

Amail 03-05-2024 07:44 AM

The execution is amazing, but it's just horrific.

MMARSH 03-05-2024 07:47 AM

From the angle of the above picture. The roofline reminds me of a Volvo P1800.

Sign o' the times.

It costs 7 figures to win the Ridler these days. I'm beginning to think that the reason for the prize has lost it's way. AMBR award (Oakland) has become the more meaningful award, at least to my way of thinking, because there is still a chance that the little guy can win the top prize.

911 Rod 03-05-2024 08:17 AM

I take it the car is not drivable and just for show.
I'd rather have a turtle pond.

flatbutt 03-05-2024 08:37 AM

Corvettes of that era don't need to be re-designed...at all. Just my opinion.

creaturecat 03-05-2024 08:55 AM

f'ugly.
lotta talent went into that thing!

pwd72s 03-05-2024 09:06 AM

Not a style I like, but you have to admire the craftsmanship..

The owner says he plans to drive it; the brake discs are stainless steel, not chrome plated and he has another set of wheels and tires more suited to driving. And I agree with that decision.

He has sold/built several convertibles that are similar.

Those were carbon fiber bodies out of a mold. This one is hand formed aluminum.

If I remember correctly he stretched them to add much needed legroom.

What will people think of it in 25 years?

About what we think of a lot of Geo. Barris' work. Not his TV cars.

I think the Kindig crew are are some of the most talented fabricators on TV but not many of their creations are meant for street use, just for car shows. Most don’t even have wipers or mirrors. Nevertheless, I enjoy watching the craftsmanship on that show.

The other 7 finalists.

I think most of the guys on motortrend are decent guys less Dan I think from Resoration Garage, and that guy with the long hair in Canada. Ones just bitter, the other seems pompous Jesse James can rub me the wrong way too. I like his work and he seems okay at times. He always seem to say something a bit jerky to me.
Dave and Kev Dog does seem like a great guys.
Back to the cars, I love the craftsmanship but I don’t get everyone Blinging out the cars. Sometimes there is more with less. Personally I think it’s a get low car. Wife would get low in seat when driving by people, a bit much. Just my opinion.

911 Rod 03-07-2024 05:21 AM

All the finalists are works of art. As cars, not so much

GG Allin 03-07-2024 06:16 AM

Looks too much like one of these.

I seriously doubt any of these Ridler cars will ever see a concrete or asphalt road. Most are trailered in and people pushed on the show floor. Pushed back on the trailer and sit in a climate controlled building forever. Easily 6-7 figure cars.
