Behold the Power of Ice
Springtime ritual I do every year is drain and fill the Hot Tub with a change of water.
Hint Hint: It got down to 17-20F for about a week during last winter. Went to use my cast iron transfer pump and got a free shower and shoe washing. Don't know the wall thickness of the cast iron material, but it had an 8" long crack going around 3/4 of the base with deformation up to 1/8". JB Weld to the rescue. Looking forward to next winter, bring it on...... Yes it was a Harbor Freight unit. But still? Behold the Power of Ice. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709664143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709664143.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1709664143.jpg |
Only use Harbor Freight epoxy on Harbor Freight products

Water expands when it freezes and it’s going to have its way.
|
This is why we winterize everything.. RV plumbing, boats (manifolds split all the time), cabins, etc.
Its a thing. |
Precisely why we can't freeze and successfully thaw living creatures.
|
It’s a very unusual property of water that has a profound effect on life on earth.

I just use suction from two old garden hoses I've cut down in length to drain our tub. Just immerse them from one end at a time and slowly feed them until the other end is under water, then cover the opening with your palm and lift it out and down to the ground. Nature and physics will do it's job.

I remember seeing a science show about the power of ice. They built thick steel blocks, bolted together win large bolts, and the ice just broke them. The power of freezing water is just amazing.
|
I have seen engine blocks, cracked up from the crank up to to the deck and follow right up into the cylinder head . Big block chevy , the freeze plugs did not save it .
Also saw a 305 fracture in the same way . |
Expansion is the super power of ice!
but, about those frozen embryos... |
