We'll see who gets slapped around tonight

At the Oscars.

I know not many Pelicans are fans, but I get a kick out of it.
The worst part is the "Thank You 's" I only saw one Oscar movie this year
"The Hold Overs" and it was pretty good.

Scott Douglas 03-10-2024 11:27 AM

I like to watch. Never really go to the movies either.
It beats watching all the political stuff on TV.

Crowbob 03-10-2024 11:36 AM

Apparently, “Holdovers” was plagiarized.

CBS Sunday Morning (today) had a segment on Kimmel and his writers getting ready for the show.
I'm not sure of the exact number, but I believe he uses over 26 joke/line writers for his prep.

I always like watching it...it's on at 7pm on ABC tonight.

You're kidding, right?

I see at least one movie each week, every week, but I've never cared to watch awards shows, the term vapid comes to mind. That and I don't have a TV so that helps. Happy to find out who won what the next day especially against my own rankings.

Bill Douglas 03-10-2024 12:53 PM

I think I'll just wait for the pictures the next day.

It's always a pleasure to see the young ladies showing off excessive ***

stevej37 03-10-2024 12:58 PM

It used to start at 9pm and go to midnight or later. The 7 pm start is a good move.

DWBOX2000 03-10-2024 01:25 PM

I think their salaries are award enough. I’m waiting for an accountant award show. 😀😀😀 Joke

I don't think they get much of anything besides the little trophy.

Kimmel was asked about his MC pay on CBS this am and said something about $15k and he's spent months preparing for the show.

john70t 03-10-2024 02:01 PM

I wasn't invited. Not paid to attend.
Couldn't care less about that brief party of millionaires who have so many personal problems.

Celebrities are given massive gifts constantly and this Oscar's is the "worst." Some gift packages are worth $250K. They get them because Hollywood celebrities are the original and consistently best influencers.

Just one of many articles on the subject

Here’s what’s inside the nearly $180,000 Oscars gift bag given to Christopher Nolan, Lily Gladstone and other nominees

I don't/haven't watched in years, possibly decades.

I think they should hire Ricky Gervais for every celebrity award show. If he came on and made jokes at their defense, I might watch more (no I wouldn't, but I might watch excerpts on YT).

stevej37 03-10-2024 03:22 PM

Jimmy's monologue was great...as usual. But he is still no Billy Crystal.

Jodie Foster is looking very hot.

stevej37 03-10-2024 05:34 PM

Ryan Gosling is a good sport about the 'Ken' character he played.

stevej37 03-10-2024 06:25 PM

'Oppenheimer' is the big winner.

A930Rocket 03-10-2024 06:41 PM

While reading the news, I clicked on a link showing actors and actresses on the red carpet. Of the 20 or 25 pictures, I recognized three or four names.

I only ever watch movies on airplanes. Last one I saw in a theatre was Maverick and last one before that was Dunkirk. I saw Oppenheimer on a recent flight, but have not heard of any other recent ones.

Yeah, he sure is. He seems like a good natured fun guy.

There is a shortlist of crap I despise: award shows, beets, and selfish people are at the top.
