I think mine changes to a middle finger, but only on links to Facebook or other social sites!

Some are able to use the 'touch pad' just as well as a mouse.
I've tried it...can't get used to it.

HAH! Stumped a Prof Level 5 engineer at Boeing for a whole day and he even called a computer tech out to troubleshoot. Priceless and tears from laughter.

That is so wrong!!! [emoji23][emoji23][emoji23] I'll bet it was hilarious!!![emoji1787][emoji1787][emoji1787]

I have Sony LT and there is no right click. No left either but enter does that. I know it's there but I can't find it. 2 fingers scroll.
I use a usb ball mouse.

stevej37 03-21-2024 02:01 PM

^^^ A trackball mouse?
I've seen but never used one. Any advantages to them?

For many years, I used these

But when I tinkered with the trackpad on my wife's macbook, I fell in love, so now that I have an iMac, I use one of these.

^^^ Why would any of the first three be better than a plain infrared wireless mouse?

I don't 'get' the fifth one.

Zeke 03-21-2024 03:01 PM

Like the middle 2. My wife uses the 2nd to the bottom one while propped up in bed if she's not on the phone doing whatever they do. My desktop where I am most of the time has a conventional wired mouse. I keep it at the highest speed and on a lower level than the actual desktop.

Funny, the short time I worked at Pelican I pulled out the top drawer, placed a board on it and that's where my mouse was. I never put my arms up on the desk. Keyboard slides out from under the center. Center drawer is removed. I sit straight up.

stevej37 03-21-2024 03:14 PM

^^^ that's probably a smarter, more comfortable position for the arms.

I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel and biking seems to be aggravating it. When I have my arms up on the desk when using the puter...they start aching.

If I surfed a lot especially if I did any gaming, my wrist would get sore from all of the movement. Using a track ball, there's very little, to no movement of your wrist. It's all just fingers.

The 5th one in the Apple "magic trackpad" and it's awesome. It's more powerful than a mouse or trackball in my experience. you use a finger to move the cursor around. You can "click" and "right click" (2 fingers) as well as using a slew of other gestures (multiple fingers) to do a lot more. 2 fingers up, down, or left/right will scroll. 3 fingers swiped up will show you all of the windows on the screen in small thumbnails. 3 fingers swiped down will show you all of the windows of the current app in thumbnails. 3 fingers left or right swipe between desktops (multiple desktops is awesome). 3 fingers pinched in pulls up all of your app icons. 3 fingers pinched out will clear all apps so you can see your desktop. I'm sure there are more, but those are the ones that I use.

If you get used to using a touchscreen smart phone, then to me the touchpad is pretty simple and intuitive to use.

There was another i think. Not remembering the exact details.

Take a pic of the desktop and open that to full screen w/no borders.
Auto-hide the taskbar.

They click on all the icons but nothing happens because it's a pic.

Thanks...I might try a trackball instead of a reg mouse.

Yep, screenshot of desktop including icons, set as wallpaper. Hide taskbar and all icons. Clicking icons does nothing. I've seen that one acted out many times and even had someone do it to me once (picked up on it pretty quickly).
