Really big light show right now…

Ever seen the Aurora Borealis?

This is happening at my place right now. Feels like I can reach out and touch them.

Photos don’t do it justice.

Great photos guys.

I live in Wellington NZ which is about 41 latitude south and during the winter, for the first time, got the most amazing emerald green light show in the night sky. A very memorable moment.

I just saw them for the first time this year. In Oregon. It was the only thing on my bucket list. Amazing.

We've seen them twice here in the Annapolis Valley in the last 45 years. First time I wasn't sure what I was seeing, so called up the local air base for confirmation.
Amazing sight. Thanks for sharing.

Best

I spent two summers in Alaska and was fortunate enough to see the Aurora Borealis several times - simply spectacular! Absolutely no one minds getting woken up in the middle of the night to go outside and watch.

Wow, good stuff, folks. Seeing them is on my bucket list. There have been a few opportunities to see them here in TX, including one earlier this year (but it was cloudy, I tried).

Was in Tromso, Norway in JULY - one of the best places on earth for northern lights. But not in July - the sun didn't set while we were there. Yes, we knew this going in.

We see them all the time. Normally I don’t pay much attention. Last night’s show was exceptional.

Per this article, tonight may be another big show, including way to the south.

https://www.smithsonianmag.com/smart-news/you-could-see-dazzling-auroras-tonight-as-strong-solar-storm-hits-heres-what-to-know-180985251/

Quote:
Keep an eye on the sky tonight and this weekend—experts have predicted breathtaking auroras will glow above a wide stretch of the planet. Look up on October 10 and 11 for a chance to see the spectacular northern lights after an outburst of solar material collided with Earth on Thursday morning.

NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center has issued a “strong” G3 geomagnetic storm warning. According to a statement from the agency, the northern lights “could be visible as far south as Alabama and Northern California tonight,” as long as skies are clear.

The possibility of a stronger storm remains on the table. Activity levels of “severe” G4 storm “remain likely,” per the statement, and experts predict a “slight chance” of an “extreme” G5 storm like the one that dazzled viewers across the country in May.
