The internet shipping guy says there is not much buoyancy in the bow, and there's still a four-lane highway draped across it.
I was thinking is there some sort of "foot stuck in the mud effect"? where the material in the channel that the bow is embedded in densified from the movement of the hull...

Another Bridge was struck today...In Tx, by an oil barge

He said they also filled the ballast tanks to keep the ship stationary.

Depending on the situation, we would sometime flood the bilges of barges, to stabilize them, or flood the bilge and sink a barge mounted crane to increase lifting capacity..

The capacity of these huge cranes is a moveable target, flood the bilge and get the barge on the bottom increases the capacity...And some of these cranes are so old they have no nannies....

Modern cranes will shut down, or refuse to allow a lift if over capacity.. the have stain/ load gauges in the boom or winch, and a computer that knows load, boom angle, boom extension... and if the criteria exceeds a threshold, the operator cant lift..

Live stream of the demo....like watching water boil...

See if this works. In case anyone wanted to see things as they are happening, here is a live stream. Apparently, they are going to try to refloat the ship tomorrow from what I understand.

Its floating and moving.

I wasn't up for the live stream but have been watching some of the replay. The whole recovery, salvage, and removal of the ship has been nothing short of amazing.

Charleston had a scare yesterday. They closed the bridge down when they ship lost the ability to control the propulsion system. It was locked in at full steam ahead.

It was outbound and they parked it in the harbor. I cross that bridge twice a day, but did not see it this morning.

That's crazy ! Fortunately crisis averted .

I expect more of this to happen when China, Russia, Iran and NK figure out how to hack into ships, or anything that movies.

The channel is clear!

Should be open tomorrow. Now if only there was a bridge, we’d be back to square 1…

I sailed out of the Patapsco on Saturday, from a marina just behind Sparrows Point. Its pretty sobering looking at the bridge and the Dali just behind. Even with the channel not fully open, there's a fair amount of ship traffic-I was out only about 4 hrs but during that time a RORO, a bulk carrier and a large cruise ship all left the harbor.

greglepore 06-23-2024 04:44 AM

Dali sails for Norfolk on Monday, with a flotilla of tugs.

Now the fun part starts......

Totally my fault. I had one of those mirrors with a slit in it so I could aim the light at an object. I had NO idea THAT was gonna happen.

Whoops.

They nearly made progress… and then it snowed.
