Baltimore Bridge collapse

This is bad... and getting worse as news comes in.

Damn. I’m sure there will be a root cause analysis, to determine what happened. I can only guess, if the ship hit the bridge, they lost power or rudder control.

In addition to vehicles crossing the bridge, apparently it was being worked on as well.

It’s amazing, that it fell apart, like Dominoes falling.

My god… RIP to those on the bridge, condolences to their families.

It will be interesting to see how quickly this gets sorted given the traffic and logistical consequences. I’ve been pretty amazed the last couple years how quickly and efficiently the US can get stuff done in a situation like this.

It's being reported that there may have been 7 workers on the bridge but that is not confirmed . It's also unknown how many cars were traveling on the bridge when it collapsed . The Baltimore FD chief has confirmed their radars/sonars have detected cars under water but too early to confirm how many .

Massive impact to all families involved and the local community . RIP to any lives lost . Coast Guard and local law enforcement will determine how this happened . Sad situation .

I saw the video on my 10pm news. That was crazy seeing it fall like dominoes. Did not see the ship hit it, but damn! Rip and condolences to all those affected. Looking at the time stamp, it was about 1:30am. If it was earlier or later, it would have been much worse.

Baltimore Bridge collapse

Lived not far from there as a kid before moving to the shore. Unbelievable.

Some reports of ships lights flickering just prior and black smoke from stack just prior. Timing difficult on the video of the impact due to perspective. Kinda sounds like a lost rudder control and full reverse situation? Gotta think we should quickly know what happened. Ship company says all crew accounted for.

Terrible accident, bridge looked flimsy. I know it took a big HIT, but still ......

wdfifteen 03-26-2024 03:52 AM

Praying for the victims and hoping all Pelicans are OK.

flatbutt 03-26-2024 04:05 AM

That's terrifying. It's now being said that the ship lost power.

stevej37 03-26-2024 04:17 AM

Wow...lucky that there weren't more vehicles on the bridge at that time.

Wondering if the container ship is the Evergreen.

The News is still talking about Search and Rescue but how can anyone still be alive in the water after all this time.

rfuerst911sc 03-26-2024 05:18 AM

Baz that is fantastic news . I turned the TV off so haven't seen any updates . Thanks for the update .

rfuerst911sc 03-26-2024 05:22 AM

Baz I just watched the video , the 22 were on the ship . I was talking about 7 workers that were supposedly working on the bridge deck .

Hads930 03-26-2024 05:39 AM

This video indicates what appears to be some sort of power issues well before the collision with the structure.

Uhg, watching the video and seeing the vehicles that were crossing at the moment of impact just makes my heart sink, prayers to all of the families of those lost in this tragic event.

One nautical expert I listened to this morning said one of the signs of distress was all the ships lights went out , theory is total loss of power . Second sign was lights coming back on and huge black plume of smoke . Theory is power was restored and the crew gave it full power to diesel engine/s to reverse or steer . Unfortunately it was too late .

Brought to mind an old song by Jaime Brockett - Legend Of The Uss Titanic.

For those old enough to remember it and KAAY Beaker Street.
