Propane Gas Prices.

Just had the Spring fill-up of my 500 gal propane tank. Soon, they will send me pricing for next seasons contract. This past season, I've been locked into $2.86/gal with AmeriGas. I'm sure the new contract price will be higher....but how much?

If you use propane for home heating...what price per gallon do you pay?

I read on facebook some lady saying she just got a fill-up at $9/gal...no contract.
(she might be using the smaller tanks...she didn't say)

I filled my tank (178 gal.) on 3/31/23 at a price of $3.18/gal. Prior prices were in the low $2.00 range. I bought a tank and had the leased tank (250 gal.) taken back. I will refill it in August when the price is usually lowest. I use less than .2 gal./day since I only use it for my two tankless water heaters. Here the propane companies have implemented a new wrinkle by charging a $125 "system check" fee if they haven't serviced your system in the past two years. so that pumped my total at the time to over $600 for l29 gal. It's another example of companies finding ways to charge extra. Don't know what the current price is now, but August is the time when prices are lowest.

I locked in at $3.09 for this year. Next year our local propane supplier will be competing with the new NG lines that have been installed. So, who knows?

I use about 500 gal/year and I'm on the 'keep full' plan....so they deliver when they want. They installed a cell tower gas level reporter on the tank so the deliveries are always within 10 to 20 gals each time.

About adding charges...they started charging $150/year for tank rental. They haven't started the 'system check' here yet....but I'm sure they will.

I'll be happy if they arrive at $3.09 for the new one. I'm expecting close to a buck more than the $2.86 I paid this last winter.

I added a second 500 gallon tank, because our steep road would be difficult for propane delivery with ice & snow.
This way, we top them off once during the summer.
We heat our house with wood, so 1000 gallons is plenty. Almost overkill, but I'd rather have extra capacity than run low.

I have a 1000 gallon tank and I get if filled in late September and my last fill up was $1.90 a gallon and I thought that was high. I guess I should feel lucky, it used to be $1.80. Average fill is between 400 and 500 gallons.

I have a 1K tank buried in the yard and fill it once a year. Last time the price was about $3.75 per gallon.... no escaping the stupid costs here in CA.

I believe here they wave the fee for seniors, or used to.

The fee for the tank rental? If so, I'll check that out when it arrives.
Senior I am.

They've been talking on the news lately that the price is going up soon. I'm not surprised. That's why I'm thinking the new contract is going to be bad.

We currently have a 500 gallon tank and tomorrow I am road tripping to pick up a used 250 gallon tank . They will be plumbed together and the 250 will be my back up/emergency tank . We fill up in July/August to take advantage of " summer rates " . The 500 gallon tank lasts us a year and normally has 20-25% left before filling . But we added a 20kw propane generator last year that's why I want more capacity . Last year we paid $1.89 per gallon .

If I leave both valves open, both tanks will draw down at the same level.
I don't wanna do that, because if the system ever had a leak, I'd lose everything.
I only run one tank at a time, so there's always something in reserve if any leaks occur.

Yep I plan to keep the 500 valve open the 250 closed . Doing that for the same reason you said .

I think I'm seeing a trend here....the propane price is much lower in the Southern States.

Which doesn't make sense because the usage has to be much higher here.

I must also meet a minimum volume to qualify for rate lock.

I paid $3.799 in February. I don't own the tank and they do auto fill. We only use it for cooking on the stove and outside grill.
