Retired Today After 34 1/2 Years
Today is my last official day as a cop. My career has been fun, wild, crazy, frustrating, heartbreaking, and uplifting. I've served most of my time in South Central Los Angeles and met some incredibly good people in the area. I've also met a few who preyed on the weak and victimized others for personal gain. It has been an honor to serve, David

Outstanding achievement David, what an exceptionally long run you've had and enjoyed from the sounds of it
What now to keep your days busy and when can we buy your book about your lifetime of experiences being a South LA cop? |
Thanks for your service!
Great achievement, and the law abiding citizens all appreciate your dedication.
Now write some books! You are a great writer. Write Bosch like series about the gangs or the endless bad guys and their take down. |
Congratulations David; now enjoy life as you turn the page and relax.
Congratulations on retirement!
I have found your stories captivating and a real insight on what law enforcement faces in LA. I do think a book of your stories would be a fantastic read and probably serve as a snapshot of society of future generations. |
Thanks for your service and for hanging in there in these tough times! Know it is appreciated.
Congratulations on your retirement. Now that you have retired PLEASE,PLEASE write some of your experiences with LASO. In the past you have given us a glimpse of your time on the force and i think I can speak for most of us that we loved them and we want more.
Enjoy your retirement. Dave |
Thank you for serving our country.
Back in the 60's people who their lives on the line to serve our country were ridiculed and spat upon. It is a stain on our history. Now, many here are making the same mistake with Law Enforcement. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1711894969.jpg So do you think you can kick the donut habit now? :D |
Congratulations on hitting the career milestone ! Thanks for serving your community .
Thanks for your service and congrats on a great career and retirement.
Congrats, David and THANK YOU for your service!
Congratulations on finishing your career successfully, David! I'm sure you've seen amazing things, both good and terrible. I hope you share some stories from your perspective. I would love to read them.
Fantastic!
And, what is very impressive is how you maintained your perspective. Police work has consumed and destroyed a few people I know. It is the exceptional officer who retires mentally unscathed. (although I am certain you have some scars) |
Thanks to you and your brothers and sisters that serve in a difficult and largely thankless job. Congrats on making it to the end.
Congratulations David!
Congratulations David, you've had a great ride.
Pretty crazy how fast the time goes when looking back isn't it? As much as I was looking forward to it, I got surprisingly emotional when I turned my gear into logistics. I could very clearly remember that same gear being slid the opposite way across that counter 30 years prior. It was surreal. Welcome to the retirement club. Your going to be even busier now, but its even better then I expected. Just in time for that April bump too. Lol. |
Thank you for your service. Enjoy a wonderful retirement.
Thank you for your service!
David, Congratulations!
Thank you and your family for the sacrifice you made everyday to watch over us all and protect use from the evil that lurks! I wish everyday is filled with the peace and joy. Dan |
Many many congratulations for that service.... toughest job in the world IMHO. Now enjoy yourself
Congratulations on your retirement. Thirty-four years is certainly dedication to the job. I have been out for 20 years in April. Seeing the recent events here in NYC with the killing of officer Diller I feel blessed to have made it through physically unscathed as I hope you did as well. I miss the people I have met along the way not just other officers but good people from the community also, I am sure you will feel the same way. Best of luck in your future endeavors.

My best friend has his grandfather's sheriff's badge that is in a little wallet like that, it is 10 k gold. Long time, the loss of your experience out there on the job will be significant
Congratulations, David! Enjoy the well-deserved rest of your life.

May retirement be better than you hope it will be. |
Congratulations!
Well done surviving it LOL
Congratulations David. We're all wishing you a long, happy, and fulfilling retirement. Like has been said before, thank you for your service.
Outstanding Achievement!! Congratulations on your retirement!! You earned it several times over !
As said many time before…thank you for your service. Those that serve honorably are a special breed…putting yourself in harms way for society is a calling. May your void be filled by others with the same dedication and drive. Here’s to your “next chapter”!
i am so grateful we have men like you. Brave. Mature. Civic-minded. Good discipline and judgment. And most of all, willing to sacrifice for others. For community. For peace. I thank police officers every chance I get, and I am thanking you now. Sincerely. For your service.
Now write a book and sell me an autographed copy. ;) |
Congratulations on your retirement and thank you for serving you community!
David, thank you for your years of service. One of my best friends was a career RCMP member. You guys did jobs i could never imagine myself doing.
All the best in retirement. Best Les |

Congrats on making it to the finish line in a tough profession, the LASD will be slightly less without you and MMarsh. I'm so glad that I got to go and hang out with you on the job once, that's a great memory.
Stay healthy and enjoy life! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/support/smileys/wat.gif |
