Honestly I feel sorry for those addicted and have 30-40-50,000 post count.

Really? hours and hours 24/7/365.

To suggest one to get a life, would be pointless.

You DO have a life, addicted to Pelican. that's your hobby.

My Life Wisdom. Only 3 things in life hold you back.

Time
Money
Priorities.

you can only pick 2 out of 3.

^^^^ LOL .... Moi ?

I used to spend all day on Pelican when I first discovered this place .... got paid a lot for my efforts too .... then I came home. Now .... I'm only on my phone, drinking coffee wif my dawg ... waiting for the sun to come up, when I visit the PPOT breakfast club each morning .... might check in later in the day if I have a few minutes to kill ... usually waiting on something.... I'll get to 30K posts eventually .... mebbe ???

Very few minutes each day outside of java time .... so I don't really have a vice .... just a bad habit ...

I still drop by for the wimmins .... and turtles .... and spoons .... and dawgs .... and mebbe a LOL or two...

Been here 23+ years .... still haven't gotten a date tho'

Oh well.... we all quit ... eventually ...

File this under seeing things from a different vantage...

My heart goes out to a lot of older, single, men out there. based on what they tell me, they're lonely beyond belief. My thinking is their loneliness stems from not having a job, children that are grown, and being divorced/widowed. I think the last reason is the biggest. Men establish social connections via their woman. When they lose the woman, they also lose their friends.

Apparently men don't express loneliness to each other. That would show weakness. But boy howdy, will they tell me. So next time you see an older guy hanging by himself? Reach out and include him in some guy stuff. It just may be a bigger deal than you think.

Thank you Dixie. Good to hear things from your perspective.

I was single until I was 43 and I never felt lonely. I'll be frank and tell you my hormones directed most of my interactions with women, rather than wanting companionship I just wanted to get laid.
I've had a partner now for 30 years and I don't know if I would be lonely if Vicki wasn't around.
Vicki works at the local Council on Aging's dance once a week. She's gone from 2 to 9 PM. Usually I'll hang at home, enjoying being by myself. Sometimes I'll go out for dinner. And there I am, an older guy hanging by himself, enjoying a little alone time, and in no mood to have it ruined by someone trying to "cheer me up."

So don't automatically feel sorry for an old guy sitting alone. He may be just fine.

On the subject of time spent on PPOT - yes a lot of it is just social media entertainment. I check on the Engine Porn and Pictures You Have Taken and Random Pictures Threads every day. I check the Most Beautiful Women thread to see if Doug has posted anything lately.

Beyond that:

I have learned a tremendous amount here, and gotten help with many technical problems. I could never have gotten this much information from flesh and blood interactions. I've also spent a lot of money buying things recommended here.

Also, I live in West Central Ohio, an area so soaked with politics that a conversation in the grocery store is like a visit to PARF. I don't interact with the people around here much because it is so hard to have a serious conversation about anything important. Most of the serious conversations I have are with relatives and the people here on PPOT.

I like the Projects thread because I have projects of my own and the opportunity to post about them helps keep me motivated. I like to see what other folks are up to and be inspired. Some of you guys have incredible skills.

Does anybody have a link to the VW Porsche pictures website that sorts the pic by month across many years?

(How does a man in his 20's learn to write words like this?)

It's a nice tune, and I love the guitar work. But it's presumptuous to assume "Old people just grow lonesome," and we're all sitting around just waiting for someone to talk to. It assumes being around people is joyful to everyone.

It's raining .... so I'm back !

Most of the threads I start and 90% of my posts should be in green .... this one too!

I found Pelican initially because of the Tech forum .... then migrated to PPOT and stick around because of the people here ....

Patrick and Bob's posts ring true for me too....

Milt made my day once when he agreed with my solution to a CV joint issue...

Just a cross section of good folks willing to help ... and poking fun at each other and life in general .... that's why I stick around ... learned some stuff along the way too!

And after hearing it non-stop back in college.... I didn't need to hear THAT song by BS ever again ....

Going to go find a life now ....

See ya tomorrow morning .... unless the forum is broken again... and that's the only reason I started this thread anywho

Been on vacay this past week in Naples, FL
Looked at the forum about once a day and it was down every time except once.

I think the writing on the wall is getting clearer.
