AI is in direct conflict with humanity. It can create anything as beautiful or as hideous as anything ever created by man.

The notion that AI can never surpass the creativity of man is naive. Right now, the only truly original thing man can create are other men i.e., children. And even that is under assault.

AI could end us.

I was playing with the AI images the other day for a power point presentation. I wanted a mk2 broken down on the highway in the middle of the night. It gave me a picture of a mk2 golf with the hatch open and a full engine in the boot… called it a day after that.

Now, if i wanted to authorship a book… chat gpt can really build the bare bones of a novel and one can easily fine tune it into something decent.

It's Chomsky. Not Chompsky. Dammit.

And to Arizona's point about using the bare bones of a writing assignment; I'm pretty sure I could take the bare bones of the AI photo and "fix it in post" because that's what I knew how to do in a previous life. I probably could have worked with the creative director in the first essay to get a finished image.

I can't imagine what it's like to have to put food on the table as a creative these days.

I get these points, it’s for the lazy..

On the other side of it, I am blocking it for client networks for security reasons.

To me it’s a waste of time, I went to sign up to test ChatGPT, but the questions for the account were way to personal; I never went through with it am I am surprised people are willing to give up personal information to use it; you are the experiment…

In 1980 my first IT assignment was to automate property tax assessments. When I showed up to learn the process, the staff told me it would never happen. Their reasons were, It was way too complicated for a computer to handle, that computers made mistakes, and computers would never catch on. A month later the system was implemented and would handle a year's work in moments.

I reflect back to this every time I hear people whing about AI. They can complain, but it's coming anyway. Oh, and it's just a tool, not Cyberdyne.

no its not.

its microsoft excel.

its another tool in the tool chest, its not magic, and its not scary. whats scary is that some people can't tell the difference, and think for example, that code writing is about like actually typing code, and not, understanding and debugging code. and so AI can write all the code it wants to, but none of works, and because of that, now you need someone who already has the knowledge of how the code should work, debug it. which means, that person, might as well have just written the code in the first place, it would have saved time. the fact that some people can't seem to figure out there is a difference, is really telling to their understanding of what work actually is. like, writing code, or making pretty pictures is not about like actually typing, or actually coloring pixels, thats like 5% of the work. the actual work is understanding how it ****ing works. so you cant just replace the people doing the work, because nothing AI works without a human actually coming in, and you know, making it work.

AI is a tool. just like every other technological tool out there. its microsoft excel. its baffling to me what people must think of work, if they think AI is somehow in conflict with what they do for a living. how little they think of what work is, if they think AI can replace humans.

execs salivating at the concept that they could replace workers with AI just shows how poorly they understand there own business and what people do for work every day. like, they dont understand movies if they think that AI can make movies. they dont understand software engineering if they think AI will replace their engineers. and it shows how execs/the rich are not job creators, they are job destroyers. their purpose is to destroy jobs, and they love it, not create them. they dont even understand how the work gets done, on any real level, and just think everyone at work every day is doing something AI can replace, not you know, actual work.

people thinking like this ... are unintelligent or uninformed. simple as that.

also love the fact that as AI trains on AI content, it self destructs. so thats always a plus.

One of the problems with it is, all of a sudden all the "experts" are accusing stuff of being AI.

I posted a pic on another forum. Some putz immediately accuses it of being an AI pic.
I was like dude, Iv'e had this pic saved in my files for like 20 something years. its real...

I see this all the time.

On the other end of the spectrum I see it as being a "tool" that is.extremely dangerous and damaging.

That's a big danger as well, and you will see this increasingly being used as a defense as people get busted for unsavory things..."that's a fake pic, I'm innocent", etc....even for audio as it's pretty easy to fake audio these days once you have even a small voice sample for someone, which is super easy to obtain for a public figure. On the flip side, it's also easy to create fake pics/recordings as well, so it'll soon be hard to tell what is real and what isn't. The AI generated pics/audio aren't *quite* perfect just yet, but they will be very soon. Things move very fast....

I was messing around with GeoSpy AI. You cut and paste any picture and the AI does its best job of telling you were the picture was taken. Even pics not geotagged. It does a pretty good job and even better if there are popular mountain ranges or historic backgrounds but I think its scary and easily missued if you are up to no good. Perfect stalker tool.-WW

Once again an industry unionizes, strikes, and prices
itself out of the market.
You'd think they'd learn from the mistakes of Detroit
but all they can do is double-down.
Is it really a surprise that the companies are trying
to find a more reasonable source?

30+ years I’ve worked as an artist. Kind of hoping I can run out the clock before AI takes over. But learning just in case I have to adapt.

Here comes the common persons hell..So the bosses can quickly figure out who's just selling a few cups and who's working hard. They can also real time track who's buying what, who's loitering, and a lot more.-WW

ps. Looks like lazy Olga only sold 3 cups, so off to unemployment line with her.

I'd put this in the same category with companies that made major changes relying on analyzing places like FB or Twit. And got it wrong, oh so wrong.
With jobs serving the public, there can be a human element that might engage with customers in ways that might not get picked up beyond raw productivity or sales.

As to the original post, I recall the movie desk set.
In desk set the talented researchers thought they were being replaced, and were quite hostile.
Where Ai art is right now is not a replacement, it's a tool.

That original speil of words in the first image is not from the kind of person I'd want working for me.

We haven't seen 'AI' yet. All we are seeing is a bunch of 'if then' garbage distracting us from big corp finding ways to make us rent everything from our email software to the air we breathe.

And there is nothing intelligent about it. Generating stupid pictures from key words is not impressive in the least. And it certainly isn't art because art is the sharing of human experience. Computers cannot do such a thing. We are being sold the lie that humans can make meaningful connections with computers. Common sense should tell us that is just nonsense and pointless.

We generally get somewhere up to 90 years on this earth being self aware. Is that time best spent enriching micro-****ing-soft and Google or is it best spent building happy and healthy societies where human connections are made? What the **** do I care if my laptop can generate a picture of a guitar in a cowboy outfit riding a thousand pound chicken?

What is currently referred to as AI art is still the sharing of a human experience.
Someone threw stuff into the prompters and got excited by how bad or good a result was.

I also consider watching an E-type being well driven around a track to be art, even if it's just broken down to the same thing of a person putting in inputs to a machine.
