Same here, pick it all up and move it to Bama or the Florida panhandle!!!

For the price of it, I'd do some renos. A big ass deck and lots of bay windows. Make the yard like.... well .... a yard. Redo the interior etc.
But ya, it would need to be 1/2 hr. from my work place.

LEAKYSEALS951 04-25-2024 10:24 AM

I'd install more garage doors, some wall urinals, and call it a day.

Needs a shooting range too

That place is depressing...no character at all :(

I'd never want to live in a big ugly box like that...even with all that shop space thrown in. 50 acres is a lot of property to manage too, and winters in that part of the country can be pretty harsh. All built on the cheap too...the interior doesn't look any better than your average Motel 6.

Yes, being surrounded with things that evoke pleasant feelings is important to me as well, and I certainly wouldn't be getting them from a place like that.

I love the ocean too much, I guess.

Otherwise.......like others have said......hell yeah!

Me too. If I could have that on my beachfront section I'd be like a pig in muck. Broken down cars everywhere, piles of rusting steel being saved for that special project...

NY taxes will kill ya!

A buddy a mine has a set-up much like that. Pole bldg with finished living quarters separated from the shop by a garage door with the good side toward the living quarters, hinges toward the shop. An entire ‘living room’ wall opens up to the shop.

He could literally park a car, motorcycle or whatever and work on it in the living room.

It’s about 20 minutes from me. In a heart beat. But no way i would pay that kind of money to live in this climate. Rather put the money towards a home way south of here.

thingmon 04-25-2024 05:23 PM

I have family near there. The Finger Lakes area is beautiful. Maybe, if I won the lottery and could afford to heat it AND pay the taxes...

The crap winters do make you appreciate the summers more. FWIW.

I like the concept and the 50 acres, but not the execution or NY.

I’d like to see a floor plan, as looking at the pictures, it’s just room after room after room.

Would HGTV call that Firehouse chic or somesuch?

Good luck trying to sell something like that when you’re done with it. Very limited audience.

Didn't have as much shop space as it looks. Is in New York. No character. Hs decent amount of wooded space though. No, I would not.

Maybe if the shop space were better organized or had better space, but no.

My 60' x 80' insulated pole building with heat and AC has a bathroom with shower, an office with couch, an old oven/stove, a fridge and two smart tvs. I could live out there if wife ever kicks me out of the house. Lol

I am out there every evening after work and only go into the house for dinner then later at night to watch an hour or so of tv with the wife before we go to bed. She says i already live out there. :D

If my wife was no longer in the picture, I would likely never go in the house anymore. :D

That part you can fix. You can even fix the living quarters. Then what you have is a place in the boonies in NY. Not ideal but Jimmy DiResta does it.

Hell yes!! There's room for my cars etc and room for her quilting studio. Vicki would have a new facade on that place and gardens out front and it wouldn't be recognizable in a year.

The living space isn't so big you'd spend all your time cleaning. We live in 6000 sq ft now and cleaning is a constant chore. We have robot vacuums, but what I really need is a riding vacuum cleaner with a cup holder.

911 Rod 04-26-2024 08:17 AM

It would go for 10X the price here. More so because of the land.

unclebilly 04-26-2024 08:57 AM

That would be close to $2M here.

That type of house is called a garagemahal and while not super common, they do exist around here. I have friends that have built them and there are at least 2 within 10 miles of me.

I had an architect design one for me before we built our house but I chose to go a different direction.
