Would you live here??
My wife showed me this place and said it was perfect for me, but she would not step foot into it! could you see yourself living in this place?

When I was a teen, I fantasized about having a large garage full of cars with a small living space in one corner, LOL!
I might live in that, but I would prefer an old wood frame home with a large separate garage building. The 50 acres is great.

Counterclockwise?

Is that even a question?
I'd be all over this for so many reasons. It sure looks like a single guy lives there now. lol

Upstate NY too cold. If nearby I would think about renting out the house and using the shop.

I would definitely live there, but I would be alone, well, for a short time anyway. Lol.

The land is nice if not somewhat boring. The living quarters are just plain ugly. I'd have to do a complete makeover down to the bare floors and rip the kitchen out, maybe the bathrooms too. I'd have to see it in person.
The shop seems functional. Too bad the occupant is so messy. Overall, I say no way would I be happy there. The question is would I live there? No, not for long. |

There is a sub Riddit called zillowgonewild that has a lot of crazy houses like this. Grain elevators, old churches, castles, schools, banks, warehouses, etc.
Don't they ever think of resale values?

What?!?!

The property? Absolutely.
Sure, it has some warts. Nothing too serious, tho. But NY is just too far from where my life is. And money can't change that.

I will be the dissenter. When I go home, a small but important part is driving up and admiring my home and all that went into getting it.
As a second home, absolutely but I don't think the wife will sell the ski condo for something like this. |

NY, not a chance.
BUT i like the idea of a gigantic garage with living quarters. Any time my wife questions my willingness to compromise i point out that if i weren't a considerate person we'd be living above an 8 car garage.

All of you guys talking about the location. I never considered that. I was thinking in terms of the house and land. But yeah, I wouldn't be moving to NY.

I have a friend who lives like that . He has an upstairs apartment built into his big building . One balcony looks out over his land, the other balcony looks out into the shop . He got a permit to put the building on the land, and did the rest of it under the cover of darkness without any permitting, or inspections .
I am kind of looking for something similar for myself . Its just me and my 7 year old son now. I have no plans on living with any wimmens in my future .
