I work for the biggest. I bank at a CU, pretty much always have, ~40 years.
The only breach that I see online is at the second biggest, and it was only 57,000 customers. (Zeke, Mrs Zeke might be getting a letter) https://www.forbes.com/advisor/personal-finance/data-breach-affects-bank-of-america-customers/

I might have the sizes wrong .... thought JPM was the largest ... they haven't handled my pension for a couple of years now, but discovered "someone" inside (or a sub, etc) accessed all my data .... blah, blah, blah....
I'm good, my credit has been frozen for prolly 2 decades now, and I watch my accts. BOA can't even close my aunt's accts. locally .... forms have to be sent off and I will recieve "a package" ... just a PITA to sort out .... night & day difference from an estate acct I opened and transferred CDs into .... a small bank (now owned in TN). I love my CU compared to bof 'em ![]() The USPS finally got an address change completed as of today .... after 2.5 weeks ![]() Stormy sux the best ... I reckon ![]() |

Chase has not had a data breach. They did back in 2014.

That was the last that I'd heard of, but it sounds like this case was not exactly a breach (external bad actor coming into the bank from outside) but was someone internal accessing things that they shouldn't.

Steve, I thought you worked for BOA .... read your PM.
The letter from JPM (who used to handle my former corp's pension) states the three "authorized users" ran reports between Aug 2021 and Feb 2024 that accessed info they were not supposed to be authorized to see. Probably limited and I've got my backside covered ![]() But I still hate banks .... worked for two of the biggies .... decades ago. |

Also JPM here. Thus me coming to their defense.

Just curious .... are you guys "bonded"? I spent some time with two large banks (now chunks of BOA and WF) decades ago and it was required for my position in the latter one. I did "hold the keys to the kingdom" as they say ... you simply can't stop those with "access" from doing harm .... if they have the inclination.... doesn't mean they wouldn't be detected later tho'.
I'm not looking over my shoulder .... (still) ![]() |

Nope, not bonded. I did have to go through a govt clearance process about 10 years ago, and as soon as it completed, I changed positions in the bank so it was no longer required. That's the same time that the govt OPM office had a data breach and my data was stolen so now I've got free identity theft monitoring paid for by the US govt.

EVERYONE should assume their info is "out there" ... it probably is. The data breach at one of the three credit bureaus (Equifax) a few years back was around 150 million people and the medical systems, etc.
JPM, in the letter, did offer me free monitoring for 2 years via Experian .... I'll pass ... don't think it's necessary. Freeze yer credit at all three agencies folks .... the monitoring "after the fact" is mostly to generate cash (profits) and make folks think better about it ... nothing more imo. Free advice and worth every cent imo ![]() |

With so many big corporations hacked, AT&T, Microsoft, Apple, the IRS, the CIA, and even the FBI, yea there is no way your information is not "out there" already. Recently my health provider was hacked. My credit is frozen, and I watch my bank, credit union, and credit card transactions almost daily as I download them to my desktop Quicken. I use QuickBooks for my business accounts. They are pushing had to get people to use the on-line version, not gonna do it. I have never been hacked! I have never had a computer virus. I have redundant backups of my data.

I had a look at a security report recently, sponsored by my employer who also got breached... and my social has been breached on no less than 10 occasions just on that report, doesn't even go that far back... At this point I have no idea how anyone can be held in any way responsible for anything ID theft wise.
Been locking my credit for years, all you can do.... All those IF-lock services do little more than a credit freeze in terms of locking. |
