While I enjoy mocking these people as much as the rest of us, this behavior is why car events are being cancelled or invaded by local law enforcement and broken up far more frequently in recent years. I remember when we finally got kicked out of West Chester C&C; the police showed up and threatened to impound a bunch of Porsches and Ferraris if they didn't leave the premises immediately due to a bunch of kids in tuner cars using the parking lot exit as a dragstrip.

I volunteer with a local C&C group and we have some strict and reasonable rules in place. Our priority is a safe event. Law enforcement is welcome any time (and they often stop by just to look). We've constrained entrance/exit to a single point so that the local LEO can park / watch / pick-off the bad actors if they so choose.

Incidents like what's in that article are what concern me with regards to our event; I hope to never see that...

A different breed of cars and coffee guys. They were headed for a C&C called "caffeine and octane". I prefer my local old guys monthly meet up... "decaf and classics"

Down for some corn bread, but buttermilk is only usable in pancakes, biscuits, and frying chicken...

Agreed, I couldn't stomach drinking the stuff either. Some "old folks" like buttermilk and cornbread so... yeah, there's that. Lol.

Something I don't understand:

Back in my day, we (I) did lots of burn-outs,
exceeded speed limits on occasion,
and possibly even participated in competitive
acceleration tests and exhibitions of speed.

But I never wrecked a car because of it.
I never hit anyone, I never made the news.
And neither did any of my friends.

Why?
Were we so much better at car control?
Or did we still have a little sparkle of something
in the back of our brains called common sense that told us
not to to over that line, don't push it, don't be an idiot.
Something that is becoming more and more rare in today's
youth society where idiots are idolized instead of ridiculed.

One other possibility:
We had powerful cars and light cars.
but they didn't have traction control, anti-lock brakes,
sophisticated independent suspension.
We had drum brakes and live axles and more body roll
than today's kinds can imagine and we still kept it out of the ditch.

Maybe these nanny cars have spoiled drivers to the point
where they don't know how to control a car at or over the limit
because they haven't needed to?

Fewer people on the road, no cell phone cameras. It probably happened with a similar frequency but far less outrage because you weren't being filmed at seven different angles doing something less than smart on public roads.

Still trying to imitate "Need For Speed".
I shake my head at how close they get to other cars. Just yesterday some kid in his loud Subaru was on my ass and blew by me a foot away.
As they say "ran out of talent".
