Blocked emails that still come through…?
Every so often, I get a run of daily emails from Currently@att.comms.yahoo.net. I assume it’s a phishing email, never click on anything, have blocked them, but they still get through. When I do a preview, it shows my first name
Their email address is always the same. How do the emails always get through? How do I permanently block them? ![]() ![]() ![]() Last edited by A930Rocket; 07-05-2024 at 01:26 AM.. |

When I press on the email name, it brings up the screen in the second picture. It gives me the option to block the email address, which I’ve done.
In the second picture, it now says unblock this contact. Maybe my email or AT&T has been hacked? |

No... I think the contact blocking is more of a phone calls/texts thing than a email thing.
I don't think the iPhone mail client can mark as junk/etc (training a Bayesean filter like Thunderbird can). You might be able to do something in the Yahoo webmail interface to auto filter messages from that address, and auto-delete them.

I believe id10t is correct. The "block" in your phone like that is for emails and texts.
In the mail app on an iPhone you can "move to junk" but I don't know if that learns and will then do the same in the future. I would hope so, but "move" doesn't imply anything other than changing folders to me. Surely, these days, it does imply learning.

For all of it's downside, at least GeeMale provides excellent spam & BS filters. T-Mobile does a decent job on the phone/text side too...

It's likely sponsored email. They're paying Yahoo to push the mails past your filters.

Also, if the filter is in the app/on the phone, that can't be bypassed by the provider.

I only receive emails on my home computer (I know, how primitive, right?). Clicking the drop down on any email address to reveal the real address behind it allows me to "block contact". I then flag the actual message as "junk". 100% effective every time. For texts on my phone it's as simple as "report spam" and "block contact". Again, 100% effective. Separating these means of communication in this manner seems to help. Texts are for more or less immediate communication, email for more detailed, "official", or whatever.

You guys and Dixie might be onto something. I use my phone for 95% of work and 100% for Internet browsing. I checked my blocked contacts list and saw the spam email address in there.
I move the emails to junk, but that hasn’t helped, to stop them. I’ll have to logon on my laptop and see what options I have. I know with my outlook email, I can block a lot. Edit: I use BellSouth email which is facilitated through Yahoo, I believe. Maybe I need to move into the 2000 and start using Gmail! Last edited by A930Rocket; 07-05-2024 at 06:57 AM.. |

If (and I think it is) it is official, then you should be fine to "unsubscribe" using the link that is almost certainly at the bottom of the email.

I guarantee, by design, there's ways for your email provider to bypass the filters on your phone/PC email. It's a way for Google,Yahoo, or whoever, to make money. The only way around this is to write your own email app.
That said, IMO Gmail is a way better user experience.
