I know not many Ford fans here
However, this modded Pantera is freaking amazing!

Love panteras.
Relatively neutral on Ford, but my 2018 Focus ST was 19,000 brand new due to rebates, has 60,000 miles, and has had precisely 0 issues. Pretty sure it would be faster than my stock 930 at a track day as well. Would buy another ford no problem

That video was great! Thanks for posting it.
I have had a vintage Mustang or one variety or another since 1982. I’ve owned my 1969 Mach 1 since 1987 so you could say I’m a Ford guy and wouldn’t be wrong. I also love the 351C motors- years ago I acquired some 1970 4V heads with the quench heads with you guessed it… a Pantera build in mind. Around that time (1992ish) there was a local car here going for 19,500 believe it or not. Woulda/coulda/shoulda… One thing I will admit is the build quality is terrible. The panel gaps, the door rattles, the interior itself was nothing like its refined European brethren. But that wasn’t the point… it was a raucous American muscle car. So many cars, so little time…

I looked at one back in '71...the Lincoln/Mercury dealer in Albany, Oregon. Seeing my Porsche, they were more than happy to offer a test drive. I regret turning that down, but after sitting in the Pantera, I realized that my 6'3" body would have been in pain after a hundred miles or so...the engine firewall location produced a bolt upright seat back, my legs barely cleared the steering wheel, and more. Definitely not a car built for comfort.

Same. I’m a major Ford fan and of course DeTomaso cars are not Fords, other than the great American iron lump behind the driver.
The Mangusto, (preceded the Pantera), had a Boss 302 engine with headers and the Pantera had the first gen 351 Cleveland 4V. They were not hurting for power in that chassis. I used to stick out my thumb in 1975 when I missed the bus to HS in Minneapolis and one of my regular rides was a young guy in a Pantera going to work. If the timing was right and he saw me and could stop safely on that busy street, I got a ride. The way that car puts you back in the seat through 1st and 2nd gear is still fresh in my memory. What an awesome sports car. Probably not a great daily driver like a 911, though. Porsches were unique among supercars for that purpose. |

I stuck my thumb out once for a Lamborghini Espada and Ed Daly (owner of World Airways) pulled over and gave me a ride. Yay!

While it sounded cool, I think it was a little over-the-top in its execution. Just my $.0002
Also, I’m not a fan of hers. |

I always loved the looks of the Pantera, but heard the usual comments about room, comfort, etc. about them. I'm a Ford guy though - Ford van, Ford truck, & another Ford van in the past 35 years. One of the coolest rides I got was as a kid in 1953/54, when I was waling along a road to town. A guy who lived across the road stopped in a brand new Corvette & gave me a ride to town.

My next door neighbor back in the early 80s had one. I got a ride in it, and mostly I remember a great looking car, that was LOUD, very hot, and raw. His had a typical carburetor issues and was hard to start, and hesitated badly. That of course was just a poorly adjusted carb.
It was cool to look at but I knew I did not want one after seeing and riding in his. The Pantera in the video is as far from stock as a Singer. It is a really nice build.

me like Fords. any muscle, for that matter.
my old CJ 428 Cyclone ran super strong. i shoulda' kept it! : ) my daily driver is a lowly Ford Ranger. i love it. .... gas mileage is it's only drawback. |
