To back track just a tiny bit...

Toyota Corolla - 140+mph

Holy sheiße!

In my head, that's about the same as a 140+mph VW bug.

Congratulations. We have a 2017 GTI Sport and it has been a great car. VW builds a strong car. My son was driving our 2016 when he was rear ended by a Dodge Ram going 50 mph. The seat broke but the crumple zones worked as designed. Incremental improvements to the platform over the years has resulted in a car with no major flaws.

WTFFFFFF.

Seems to defile the laws of physics?

(at least to my feeble brain growing up around Dual Quad Holley 750 Double pumpers on a late 60's big block V8 390's, 460's, and 383 Muscle Cars) Heck I still drive my Dodge Ram 8.0 liter V10 Gas motor at 488 cu inches........

This new Magical Glitter Unicorn Motor?

1.6 Liters is 98 cu inches.
1.6L is smaller than your family Cola bottle in the fridge.

That's only 33 cu in per cylinder. Hah, I have a 38cc weedeater and rode a 50cc moped in college. (downhill with a tailwind in a Matrix Style Aerodynamic streamlining crouch.

So where do they get this magical pill to take and is it Red or Blue?

https://www.motortrend.com/how-to/cubic-inches-boost-or-rpm/

3 cylinders, 3 Exhaust Pipes.

The GR sounds really cool...almost like a 5 cylinder. It is a hoot to drive. The center exhaust valve is open when you start it...sound is super cool.

As a daily, I'd probably go with the GTI or Golf R though...

Sounds like motorcycle tech on the GR.

I was driving alongside a GR off and on from Georgia into Florida yesterday. Very cool looking and although it is small by today's standards, I'll bet it is nearly the same size as a Mark I VW GTI.

edit: just looked it up and the little Corolla GR is actually significantly larger than a Mk I GTI!

Hit some back roads today- oh my goodness. I've been away from fun cars too long! More grip than I'm willing to test on a public road and absolutely PULLS you out of corners like crazy. I guess a limited slip in the front makes a big difference in how fwd cars feel.

You’ve mixed cubic inches with cubic centimeters. There are about 16.4cc to 1ci. Your weed eater is a little over 2ci…

That's awesome. I know the feeling. By choice, I went about 7 years without a 'fun car'. Bought an '07 Jag XK a couple of years ago and that was a moderately fun back roads runner. Recently sold that and got a low-mile 944 Turbo - crazy fun Good to be back in the fold.

I did not. Didn't have a good impression on reliability (comical given i bought a VW right?) based on prior reading. They appear to be smaller than the Golf? For me i'd say Golf is as small as i want to go particularly in headroom.

Still loving this car. Only driving my truck when forced.

Curvy roads and gaps in traffic are its favorite things. The pull when dropping a gear or two to pass/ slide into a gap is just nutso. And the grip with summer tires and absolutely lovely suspension (even on soft setting) is addictive. You can put an accelerometer on the display and it’s like ‘let’s see how much of this circle I can fill out’.

I can’t believe what I’ve been missing out on for so long.

Congrats. I miss my 2010 GTI. Never should have sold it. Miss my son's 2016 Golf R even more. He never should have sold his.
