Loosing a finger nail… when can I rip it off?

I pinched the end of my ring finger between a wrench and the corner of my bench 3-4 weeks ago. It bled like a ba5tard.and hurt for days.

I’ve been keeping the nail taped down as best I can but now it’s just annoying.

Can I just rip it off? Will it bleed?

What's your pain threshold? That looks like about a 5 or 6.
(1 or 2 if you apply scotch whiskey)

I would probably cut it back as far as I could so that it doesn’t snag on anything. It will eventually fall off.

I did that to my big toe when changing a flat tire with sandals on my feet. Bled so bad. Screamed like a girly man when pulling off the nail.

I’ve lost many with no problem But the guy that did our glass work for us had a “ditch” running from the tip of his thumb nail to the cuticle. I asked him why and he said one time he was cutting a windshield seal out with a razor knife, slipped and ran the knife up his thumb nail. Ever since then it grows back with that “ditch” up the middle. That’ll be the next fad after tattoos are passé.

I think there's only one way to know for sure.

I haven't lost one since I was a kid. I'm thinking that if it's still connected, that it's going to hurt and going to bleed. If you tug on it and screw with it does it hurt?

just cut it back as far as you can it will work itself out. That way it wont be snagging on anything and rip off because its probably still connected a bit

That's what I'm thinking. And I'm thinking that "connected a bit" part means blood and discomfort.

yes and if you rip it off that scabbed part will make it take a little longer to heal and grow in the new nail its better and less painful to let it release itself.

I had one like that and saw the doctor about it.

Ummm, he got a pair of pliers, and yes you can imagine the rest. I could speak Japanese fluently for a minute or two.
