bad tasting water..
We have bad tasting water out of the fridge and 1 or 2 other faucets throughout the house but not out of the kitchen sink. (havent had it tested yet but I'm assuming its just Chlorine?) This has been ongoing for @ a year.
>rest of the story< I live in north ATL and its a common thing here to have the minerals in the water eat through the copper pipes over time (roughly 20 years) which leads to having the entire house replumbed with PEX. After fixing numerous pinholes, it was out turn. So I figured if it was any problem with the pipes, that should be fixed now and all the water should taste the same but no. Same exact problem. Of course we replaced the filter in the fridge 3 times with different brands recently just make sure but it makes no difference. So then, I changed the flex metal water line to the fridge AND the entire plastic water line inside of the fridge and it still makes no difference. I don't get it. ALL of the water lines in the house are new but we primarily only get the bad taste from the fridge. I plan to get it tested at the county next week just to see but what am i missing here??

Fridge must have a holding tank or if built on the cheap, a whole bunch of coils of plastic tubing to hold water so it cools down.
Maybe get some cleaner for ice makers or maybe they make a water line flushing cleaner?

If it's not too much of a hassle, get water from the line going into the fridge. Rules out the fridge.

I'm assuming you're on a municipal type water system, so any testing would have to be done within the house. If not, I'm on a well. I've never had a problem, but I dump 80oz. of unscentd bleach into my 10K gal. water tank in the summer time. A treatment like that inhibits any tendency toward algae to form. 80 ounces for 10K gallons is the right concentraton.

Did you change the water lines or did you use a plumber?
Is there any chance there is a dead leg somewhere? https://legionellacontrol.com/legionella/removing-dead-legs-water-pipes/ I would test water also.

Do you have a water softener?
The kitchen cold, outdoor hose bibs and toilets are not softened. Possible that you have cross contamination? Check your drain lines from laundry or hose bibs to make sure they cannot pull contaminants into your water lines. |

We had a plumber do the repipe and we watched most of it. It took 6 days and they basically ripped half the sheetrock off the ceilings and walls to get access to everything. They basically leave all the copper pipes in place and run new plastic hoses in its place. They make several main fittings that have like 6 connections on them going to various places. It's a pretty slick operation actually and it was @ $16K to do this house which includes repainting, etc. (3 levels, 6.500 sq ft)
Anyway, just dont understand why 4-5 of the 16 faucets taste bad and the others don't. The same main feed hose goes to the kitchen sink that goes to the fridge for example. I talked to the county and they said to bring both samples in and they will see what they can find out.
