I replaced the 2 mid-range speakers that are mounted to the door panels today with stock replacements. I didn't time it, but I'll bet it was 30-45 mins. One had bad foam (I could tell based on sound). The other looked OK, but I replaced it anyway. The last time that I replaced one of the door woofers, the other went out <3 months. The little mid range speakers are 10-11 years old, and the only way that I could get free shipping from Pelican was by ordering 2 speakers.
Good luck with your new speaker install. I hope they sound good. I'm sure the sub will be a great addition! |

Finally got 'em done today after dinner. Had get out to my shop so I can make these adapters out of 1/2" Baltic birch scraps. I was able to use the existing factory plugs. Only needed to solder the speakers to the factory tabs just like the originals.
The hardest part was getting the door panel off. Man those plugs are tight. I though I was going to break them. The original speakers were gone, foam felt apart as soon as I touched them. NEw speakers are 6.5" whereas the originals were 7 5/8 http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1721885872.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1721885872.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1721885872.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1721885872.jpg |
Nice. Do they sound good/better?
When I replaced the stock woofers in the doors, they looked the same. I replaced one, and then <6mos later, the other one started buzzing. My pass' side midrange started buzzing, so I just replaced both. I went with stock replacements for all of them. I kind of wish I'd gone with something better, but they sound good. I guess I just don't know what I'm missing. |

Outstanding. I'd wondered about the under seat sub. When you said that I was thinking "there's not a ton of space under there."
I'm glad that the results paid off. I know the car sounds great, but I still like to have music to listen to while I'm driving. |
Those are much prettier than my cutting boards ones :D
If anyone needs a Bose speaker let me know |
I just installed new Kicker 4" spekers in my Kubota tractor this morning. it took 15 minutes. One of the cheapo clarions was blown... They were $70 on amazon and had great reviews.
