Blue screen of death. Happy Friday

Woke up to find my work computer stuck in the blue screen loop.

Good luck

Yep... I filled my car with gas this afternoon and had to pay with cash.
I always keep some cash in my wallet but a lot of people I know only carry cards.

- Meanwhile my Linux based laptop is chugging along just fine.

I still occasionally use my old computer I built for the new Windows 7. So I built in 2009 or early 2010. The CPU of that era is slow, but it still runs some of the old stupid expensive programs that I have not upgraded do to the fact I don't need them often.

For sure, I prefer the speed and performance of my monster computer I am typing this on. And it is several yeas old.

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/mass-cyber-outage-airports-businesses-broadcasters-crowdstrike-rcna162664

Major airlines, medical facilities, businesses and police forces around the world are currently being affected by a massive information technology glitch caused by a problem with Microsoft cloud computing services early Friday.

CrowdStrike, the U.S. cybersecurity company behind the glitch that affects Microsoft Windows users, says that the outage "is not a security incident or cyberattack" and has now issued a solution.

But the error has brought chaos to a number of key institutions and businesses around the world that may take some time to clear up.

Flights have been grounded in several countries and stores and broadcasters in several countries went offline.

THis might be a good time to get crowdstrike at a huge discount. LOL

I take it back. Their stock has surged. Yes, in the past week, it's down about 20%, but it's still way up from the beginning of the year and way, way up from last year.

They say software update not cyber attack. Pretty scary when anyone so easily can push out a software update that has the same effect as a cyber attack. Scary scary world

Our County Executive reported that the outage impacted 3,500 county devices, including emergency communications and nearly all county operations. Many infrastructure systems such as sewage and water were not affected, but all county-facing operations have been impacted.

I’m still down. Can’t work. Thankfully I didn’t have a heart attack and need 911.

I do have my VHF radio and can call the Coast Guard on ch16… holy smokes

if you are still down and using crowdstrike

boot windows into safe mode or recovery mode

navigate to
windows\system32\drivers\crowdstrike

delete file c-00000291.sys

reboot

My flight today was canceled as the shuttle bus was picking me up from longterm parking. This is murdering my wallet and next week.

Can't imagine how many systems will need manual intervention to get back online... wow

Another reason I will not do my computing "on the cloud" for any task. Every platform has been hacked. Apple, Microsoft, CIA, FBI, AT&T and on and on. I have never been hacked. I do my computing locally on my computer.

It gets even better if you use bitlocker to secure your hard drive. In order to boot to safe mode or recovery mode, you need to enter your unique 48 digit code before proceeding. You've memorized that 48 digit code, right?

I'm so glad I've moved to 3 days a week for working. I might have to send a text to the boss and determine whether I want to come in on Monday. My team isn't responsible for security products, and we don't directly support desktops, but you know when something like this goes down, we'll be the group tasked to come up with a solution.

What happened to read-only Fridays?

Per the BBC 4295 flights cancelled world wide which doesn't count the impacted/late flights.
