Enjoyable Ski Weekend in Banff - Maisonneuve Fracture

I had a low speed crash yesterday and my knee brace broke my fibula…

The trouble is that this resulted in my ankle exploding.

I tightened the 5hit out of my boot and side slipped down to the base. Got to the hospital (thanks to a ski race coach, ski patrol, and several friends).

I was put under so they could reset my ankle and put on a temporary cast. This afternoon, I get surgery to screw my tibia to my fibula and then we let this thing heal up.

My son is racing at the qualifier for the alberta winter games…

Fun times.

Sorry Billy. It sounds painful AF! Missing your son's Q run is salt in the wound I'm sure. Chin up, attitude is half the battle. You got this.

Sweet Lord, Unclebilly! I guess your skiing days are over for this year.
Calving is going to be a SOB. Do you have someone to help out?

I’m hoping for the 6 week healing time… I guess we will see what the surgeon says this afternoon.

Ouch!

I love skiing but always anxious about falling and tearing something up.

You sideslipped down the mountain? Damn. I would've passed out. I needed the toboggan when I broke my leg skiing. I can't even imagine just taking control of the situation like that.

Get well soon! I hope you got to keep the boot intact.

What did you put between your teeth to get you through the trip down the mountain?

Kudos for your fortitude, the healing will be more annoying to a guy like you.
Your kid is learning some many life lessons, draw on that for strength.

Great news that you're getting immediate treatment in Banff! My buddy had shoulder surgery done there some years ago and G Damnit!..... it IMPROVED his golf game!
I don't stand a chance now....

Get well Scott!

The screw going across the Tibia and Fibula will need to be removed before you walk.

Just out of surgery. Everything went well. They had to move some ligaments around that were not in the right place so 3 incisions.

No pain right now but still pretty drugged up.

Good luck to you Billy..sounds like you are handling it well.

When it comes time for the physical therapy....do it to the letter. (speaking from experience here)

Oh boy, get well soon. You are one tough cookie. I would have been screaming all the way down the mountain into the hospital.

I just got my knee brace off the past couple weeks from torn tendons in my knee. Now, I have to keep working it to get it back to normal. My kid was laughing at my azz because one of my leg is much smaller then the other.

Did they have to cut the boot off?

I was concerned about this. The ski patrol guys wanted to remove the boot and I stopped them. I let the ER nurses do it. They were so gentle that I didn’t feel a thing (even without pain meds). They told me it’s not their first rodeo.

It’s all screwed back together and I’m on the mend. 6 weeks before I can put weight on it.
