Good history of the glory days. Thanks.

Back in 1976 or 1977 I was still living in Alabama. There was no PCA region in Alabama back then, and I joined the North Florida region in 76.

Anyway, I heard about an event at Road Atlanta. I have a friend that had just moved to Chamblee, Georgia and I could stay at his house for free. The Ferrari club hired the Peachstate, PCA region to run a DE for them, so they did not have to do anything but drive.

The club made so much money doing it they rented the track a week later for us to have a DE. So I was on track in my mighty 95 HP 74 914 2.0 flogging it on track as a beginner driver.

Now the point of all that was a retired airline pilot was there with his recent purchases of two old race cars. A 908 and a 911 RSR. He bought them as just used race cars for cheap. The RSR was about 20K. He had to put some money into them to get them back into reliable driving condition. He gave my a ride in the RSR. It was my first ever ride in a race car. We came to turn one and I was stomping on my imaginary brake pedal and holding on to the roll bar for dear life as I figured he was going to commit suicide and take me with him. He just went around the turn at impossible speed and kept accelerating. I was astonished.

Now that old used race car is worth a decent fortune.
