Best tool for job

I want to remove welds from boxster muffler. In tight spot. Trying to remove tips. My grinder wheel is too big without grinding other parts of muffler.

Can you remove the muffler to improve access?

That's what popped into my head as well. Isn't the muffler assembly just bolted on? Once it's out then there should be more room for more tools.

Sorry, muffler off car on bench.

Looking at tools, probably better off just having muffler shop grind off. It’s a one time job.

Why wouldn't you post a picture of your muffler?

Shaun's kit is awesome. I'm not so sure a muffler shop is going to have better than that for close quarters.

DWBOX2000 08-15-2024 04:59 AM

I tried, my phone didn’t cooperate.
It’s not that a shop won’t have a better tool, it’s that it is probably a 1/4 the price for something I’ll likely never use again.

Carbide burr on an die grinder, liker Shaun posted.

Do you want to salvage the tip? Or is it going to be scrapped? What's the end goal?

If the tip is scrap, go at with a zip cut on a grinder.

What the heck, I just bought Shaun’s tool. If it don’t work, I’ll use it to shape rocks.
Thanks all.

Dremel Max Life 9903HP 1/8" (3.2mm) Tungsten Carbide Rotary Tool Carving Bit

DWBOX2000 08-15-2024 06:36 AM

I’ll check them out Shaun. Thanks

I'll buy from you what you paid for it and split shipping. I'll even pay shipping. Get the Dremel cut off wheels as well with the arbor/mandrell.

I have a hefty Dremel but not the pencil grinder.

I'll bet you keep them. :-)

Critical piece of info on the pneumatic pen. Any tool with a wide head: cut-off wheel, flap sander, wire brush (Harbor Freight has an awesome package of brushes), you have to cut the shaft down so only 1/4" max shaft is showing after inserted in the pen. At 56K RPM, the heads which aren't perfectly balanced makes the shaft bend over like wind on a blade of grass.

For straight shafts like burrs and diamond bits, you don't need to cut them down.

It is an extremely useful tool. I use mine for so much from polishing the insides of Allen bolts for plating to cutting and grinding and shaping everything else.

Darn you guys and your fancy tools. I must have one of those now

As far as getting into tight spots, I bought this flex shaft attachment for my Dremel about 5 years ago and it's paid for itself a million times over.

Great for metal rehab and cleaning up carb and brake components!

That's pretty cool. I was thinking a cordless Dremel with a cut off wheel.
