From the article ...
"These are the vehicles that the car makers have tried to get people to bring in, to have them repaired and it hasn’t been done yet," said Jeff Gilbert. Interesting wording. He doesn't say people whether or not people have brought them in and if not, why they haven't. I went through this Do Not Drive nonsense on a Honda vehicle a few years ago: They tried to get me to bring the car in. They succeeded in doing so, only to tell me they didn't have the parts and could only estimate that they'd receive them sometime in the third-quarter. This was in the late first-quarter. So going by his verbiage they tried to get me to bring the vehicle in to have it repaired and it hasn't happened yet.* * Full disclosure: it might have been done by now, but I jettisoned that car - to a knowing Honda dealer (who I suspect is given parts-availability priority so they can sell the ones people have ditched) as quickly as I could after being advised to not drive my vehicle. _

Airbags in my '09 Mustang were replaced long ago. I remember it took a few months for the dealership to get the needed parts, but the replacements being done are in my file on the car.
Can't imagine why others ignored that long ago recall...it certainly had enough publicity.

I came into possession of a vehicle several years ago that had an open
safety recall for an airbag. I took it to the dealer, who said the parts were not available and probably would not be for at least three months. I did not wish to wait that long only to have the wait extended over and over, so I sold the vehicle to a private party (at a discount) with full disclosure and complete documentation of such. I learned that most (if not all) car dealers will not touch a vehicle with an open safety recall, as they can't legally sell it that way and will be stuck with it until the recall is satisfied. I can only speculate that the honda dealer must have obtained the parts to fix it or gotten a deal that was just too good to pass up. |

That reminds me, there’s a recall on my 2014 F150 for the possibility the transmission will downshift to ffirst at speed.
