Didn't get called a lot, but when needed, I was needed .... during my corporate gigs I carried a pager & started with a bag phone, then cell phones, and it was 24x7x364 (Thank You Jesus ) .... a necessary evil ... no mas. I check my phone more regularly now.... but it's rarely on me.

Oh sweet Lord, does that ever bring back memories! For 20 years I was a sales representative and area manager for a dairy. When they gave me a pager, my wife said,"Doctors and firemen need pagers. Milkmen don't need pagers."
My territory eventually grew to a three hour drive from one end to the other in western Nova Scotia and I felt I knew the location of every payphone along the way. Eventually I bought a bag phone and sent the bills to the company. After a few years of that, head office took over the contract. That was when things went into the toilet. 24/7/364 describes it well. It got so I hated to hear the phone ring and it might do so any hour of the day, any day of the week.
It took months before I stopped flinching at the sound of a ringing telephone after I left the job.
