Running Out of Garages to Visit.
I had learned last week that one of the guys in my neighborhood that restored mostly air-cooled cars in his garage had passed from cancer.
He was a amazing craftsman and he put together so many fantastic cars over the years with his wife assisting on the interior finishing. I would occasionally get to visit him while he was working on one of his projects when he was in the mood to talk. Great guy, I will miss the opportunity to see what his current project is. Now I will be walking by at least 4 garages in the hood while out with the dogs that are silent and maybe used for parking instead of interesting activity centres for me to visit. Not many people actively working in their garages now. ![]()

Seems like everyone is getting cancer these days.

I walk my neighborhood frequently. Most garages are big rooms with a big door to house stuff - not cars or workshops - just stuff. I have a few neighbors who do interesting things in their garages. One has several vintage motorcycles, one starts plants (at least I think that's what all the grow lights are for...), one has a wood shop - but most just house stuff. Of those I know around the area that have car projects, most are winding them down...

Adding to the reply more in-line with the OP's original message: As I walk my neighborhood I also am reminded that there are fewer people who want to visit. Maybe it's just me, but everybody seems stressed, hurried, and not really interested in connecting with their neighbors.
I'm sorry about your friend, Billy. |

Been like that for me as well. Buddy of mine that lived three houses down passed five years after he retired. Introduced me to a bunch of Audi and Porsche nuts but, we’ve all either passed or gone separate ways. Have picked up new enthusiastic Porsche buddies over the last couple of years.
Natural process of aging out. There’s still young guys working on cars but, it’s a different era.

A neighbor's kid who helps us get the hay in and sometimes critter sits has built his own dirt track "stock car" and it is great to see his face light up when he gets to talk about racing.
They are out there. Best Les

One of the reasons I don't see much garage action while walking the neighborhood is that you don't want the random looky Lous from scoping what you have in your garage. If I ever put an addition onto my garage, I will put a bay door that opens to the yard in it that you cannot see in from the alley.

What kind of spiders? Were they crawling all around, line dancing, spinning webs?

Spiders will find a nice home in an old mattress stored in garages or storage facilities, in short order. Nice dry area and perfect for Brown Recluse.

My block has 21 homes. One sits vacant. I think one lady with a corner house parks her car in her garage (but its entrance is on the cross street, so I'm not entirely sure). Otherwise, the rest of the houses all park their cars outdoors. These vehicles are all likely leased, so what do the "owners" care about their preservation from the elements?
