Music artist playing creating a song, vocals & instruments on the fly - impressive
I've seen videos of this technique several times on the Internet. < EDIT > I guess this technique is called "live looping" and is a thing. I found a video with a short interview of and performance by the girl. She took piano lessons starting at 6, then drums starting at 10. Then I guess she learned some guitar and bass. Since she plays them all, she wanted to showcase that she could play them and so got into live looping at 17-18. < /EDIT >
Is that as impressive as it seems to me (wish I'd learned to play something when I was young). And how accurate are the videos with respect to what you hear in the videos? I have seen several (not just hers) where it all seems to be live. But I feel like there must be some additional "stuff" going on in the background to make it all come together as well as her videos. In the "what covers are better than the original" thread someone posted this video. At the end of the video a guy goes on and on about how amazing the young lady that did the vocals is. I checked out the "behind the scenes" video, and that lead me to check our some of her videos. video from the other thread Some of her other videos. She seems reasonably proficient at drums, guitar, bass, and keyboard. It's certainly impressive in my mind to play all of those instruments, but then to also make a song with all of them and vocals seems to me to be a step up in level of talent from doing any one of them. This appears to be a video of her doing the same live in front of an audience.

Yes those vocals are top notch. Yes, musicians can do some amazing things. Looping is a powerful too, including and especially to showcase the talent and creativity of a single performer. I've had the pleasure to see Jet Black Pearl twice now. Sort of offbeat, but fun. She does it all in front of a live audience. She might start a song by building some multi-track (looped) rhythm sounds, like drums and whatnot, that she makes with her mouth and whatever assorted tools she has (but not actual drums). Throughout most songs she then plays accordion, usually, since this is sort of a one-man-band instrument anyway, though she sometimes incorporates other instruments. Each time she does a verse or chorus she records it and when she plays it back again later in the song, she adds another vocal layer. By the time she finishes a song she's got three part harmony on the verses and four-part on the choruses. Plus, she is just fun to watch. Her delightful personality is infectious.

I have watched Coco Love Alcorn work with a loop machine in a live performance. Hearing the artist add layer after layer of sound is amazing and so far beyond anything I could do.
