Angry 2020 vehicle.. Too new for replacement parts??

So my daughter calls, tells me her Hyundai Sante Fe is running rough, CEL on.

Brings it over tonight , toss my scanner on it. Cyl 3 misfire. Check everything find a bad spark plug.( cracked insulator.... ) Easy quick fix.

Go to four parts places. That NKG plus doesnt even exist yet. No cross ref, no alternative, nilch! They all said same thing, that It's becoming more of an issue, with replacement parts for newer vehicles. Long time before parts become available. Probably will have to check dealer in the morning.

WTF?? It's 4yrs old already!

That is amazing that they would use a special plug, that the aftermarket or even NGK does not sell. I guess the dealership may be the only source.

Shortly before we retired and moved, I had a neighbor brag to me about his solution to a similar situation. A Honda dealership let him take the car home to show it to his wife. He took it home alright, where he swapped the part, then returned the car and told the salesman it started running like crap and they weren't interested.

When I asked why he didn't just go to a wrecking yard (there's a few within maybe twenty minutes, while the dealership was about a half-hour away) his only response was that he'd never been to a junk yard and wasn't comfortable dealing with one.

He's a dishonest and strange dude.

I highly doubt the Koreans are reinventing the wheel. They can’t even get an engine to last 50k miles.

Which is why a wrecking yard should be able to help. No shortage of dead Hyundia and Kia vehicles out there.

Ended up going to the Hyundai dealer this morning.

The only had two plugs in stock. $30 each...

Parts guy said only the dealerships can get them so far, from what he knows. He says it's hit or miss with them having them in stock also. The ones for the non turbo motor are a dime a dozen .

I hope it was a platinum plug for that price.

What does normal maintenance schedule say about time/miles replacement of plugs?

Maybe they don't stock them because none of their cars have made it that far.

They have such low quality... It's known defect that the engines will still have sand in the blocks from the foundry.

My grandson is a tech in a Hyundai dealership down in FL. He said there is an issue with the turbo engines burning up plugs.

This one , the insulator came loose or cracked and dropped down on the electrode.

Sounds like the factory chose the wrong heat range for the turbo'd motors.

This is the worst plug I've had to deal with in a long time.
It came out of my Honda.

I bet the collective could come up with a viable alternative if you showed us the plug/number to get the specs on it.
