Are you old enough to remember.....

......in the 50's and 60's having the 65 mph speed limit signs that turned to 55 mph at dark/night.
They used reflective tape and were on two lane highways. I think they quit using them in the early 70's and went to 55 mph limit day and night.

How about the stacks of rolled-up wood snow fences that were posted up on the west side of north/south roads. (snow-belt only)
The County Workers would unroll them and post them up each fall and do the opposite in the spring.
Don't see this done anymore....at least not around here.

I rode my first motorcycle (a Honda 50 step thru) in the 50's.

The wheel was already invented then?
:D

In the late 70s I lived someplace with snow, and there was even snow fences, but nothing like you described that I remember. But then things work a bit differently on military bases.

I remember the oil/gas crisis and folks groaning about the 55mph speed limit from the 70s.

KFC911 10-13-2024 11:25 AM

No titties in da fitties for me .... born in '60 :)

stevej37 10-13-2024 11:26 AM

^^^ The snow fences here, were mostly placed along roads that had wide open fields on the west side to drift the snow up before it was blown to the roads that had plowed snow.

The 55 limit could/should be changed back to 65 during the day. 55 at night is good.

My first year of college, I took Computer 101 as an elective.
They had just finished the building that housed the computer.
The computer took up the second floor and when we used it, we had punch-cards and sat in a row of 5 (at the most) to use it for simple math functions on the first floor.

How fast time flies.

Scott Douglas 10-13-2024 12:32 PM

Is that why they say you pick up speed when you're over the hill?

Sooner or later 10-13-2024 12:33 PM

Last time I drove NM highway 64 near Capulin volcano there were snow fences up.
