Holy carp! There's a name that I haven't heard in, probably, decades.

that used to be my attitude. the second half of my life, I am thinking differently.
I don't think it matters if you know how to dance or not. just dance. moves or not, just go for it. I grew up in a stuffy ass family, that can't talk about our feelings. made me very self conscious. I hate that about myself. now I am way better. can I dance? hells yes! it got me my wife!! and I sucked..but she loved how I tried. so, all the recent dancing? go for it. singing? nope...does not apply.

At the Downhome Blues Festival in Camden, SC with my friend Clair sometime in the early 2000's... a pub crawl. We had already walked around and had seen several bands and had settled outside where a few chairs had been set up outside on a grassy area behind one of the venues and were watching another band.
A few couples had begun dancing and we watched as this one guy with a few beers in him had gotten inspired to ask a woman nearby to dance. She consented and they went over where the other couples were dancing and then it began... the woman was doing pretty well, and the guy was trying, but he just looked lost... we were far enough from them that he/they couldn't see us trying to suppress our laughter. We were dying. Clair leans over so I could hear her above the band and said, "some people's brains just process rhythm differently." I doubled over... and said, "that guy has big ideas for later tonight if she's game." [Background info; Clair was an academic advisor at the UofSC] Next she delivered the final blow and I'm sure most women would agree... "Oh, absolutely not. If you can't pass the dancing test, don't even sign up for ___ing!"

Not all men can be Fred Astaire, not all women can be Ann Margaret.
Just have fun, folks...in the time before you'd fall if you tried to dance.
