New project... wrecked Monaco coach from Copart
After watching guys on Youtube buying and fixing cars from Copart, I had to pull the trigger and join the "fun". My wife is not too happy....
Bought a camper last year to use as a boating base on the Maumee river. Unbeknownst to me, there were no open campsites available. Towed the monster to Oshkosh once, but other than that, it is useless to me. Last fall I decided to start looking for a diesel class A to buy instead as we could then pull the boat with it on family trips. Did not want to spend too much, so all I looked at were old pieces of crap. Started looking/bidding on Copart auctions in Ohio and ended up winning one yesterday (2004 Monaco Camelot 40' quad slide $253k when new per MSRP data sheet). Going to pay for it and have it towed 140 miles home tomorrow. Gonna be a big project. Needs metal structure repair up front and then a "new" fiberglass front cap. If I am lucky I will have about $30k in it when complete and with 60k mile on the clock, like ones are going for about $70-100k. Kind of nervous about this project...

Tim, I think if anyone on this site can do the job properly it's probably you and I'm hoping that you post updates, because I'm looking forward to living vicariously through your enthusiasm and talent.

Nice damage doesnt look too bad but still a litteral huge project.
I think all my jackstands are rated at 3 tons or I would lend them to you

Ambitious project! You have to remember that this one will never be worth "normal price" no matter how well you fix it, salvage title and all. I'm surprised that hit totaled it considering book value.
I wonder what it hit?

If you do this project with the detail of the dirt track, car, and boat rebuild, it will turn out fine. You remind me of "BADOBSESSIONMOTORSPORTS" project Binky.

Damn dude, definitely ambitious. All I know about motorhomes is from my time as a diesel tech, they SUCK to work on. But I have zero doubt you can handle it. Keep us posted!

As a diesel pusher owner myself, that project certainly looks doable. One great advantage for you is that Monaco is still in business and the front cap may still be available, or certainly from a salvage yard like Copart. Monaco made thousands of coaches and parts should not be too difficult to source, and since it is a large producer, many aftermarket suppliers--like windshield manufacturers, will have what you need.
Just a heads up. If stored outside while being repaired, be sure to keep it completely dry. Water intrusion to the walls or roof will lead to delamination and that is a repair you don't want to tackle, especially since the coach looks to be solid at this point. Overall, the good news is that outside of the body parts and cabinetry, every system inside is third party and generally used by other coach builders as well. Any repairs to house systems will be relatively easy. The real key to your costs will be answered by how long that coach sat, unused. It looks to be in good shape, except for the front of course. The worst thing for a diesel motorhome is lack of use, not only for the house systems but for the engine and transmission as well. Good luck and you will find lots of support on various fourms dealing with Monaco. I really think you can pull this off without too much difficulty given your personal experience and skill as well as the resources available. Keep us posted, by all means, with lots of pictures!
