He we go again - New storm

A new storm is headed to SWF. Looking at the half full portion of the glass, there should be less damage this time. After Helene, most people's houses are now empty of furniture, appliances, floorings, and drywall. *Sigh*

Then you don't get the surge.

Looks like I'm in for another surge this week.

My neighbors just recently moved to north central Florida after having a house built for them. As soon as they moved, the storms started arriving.

It's the tears in their eyes that gets to me.

As if orchestrated, five couples are loading up their SUVs this morning. Loading the little they have left won't take long. Then they'll be on the road. No, they're not evacuating. They're leaving. After decades, they just can't afford Florida anymore. They tell me the hurricanes are more frequent, and more powerful. Insurance has skyrocketed. Even if you can afford insurance, there's still substantial out of pocket costs after each storm passes.

I get it. Sometimes I too think I'm a fool for living here. There's a hell of a lot of something else I could do with my five figure insurance premium. Heck, even Dr. T. Told me he's thinking of selling.

...I appreciate y'all letting me decompress a bit by making this post. I really have no point other than I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed this morning.

Our youngest son lives in Orlando . Spoke to him yesterday he is shopping today for supplies just in case . Not hording just making sure he has essentials just in case .

Dixie in a previous post I suggested you may want to consider a generator . You said " screw that I will just leave " . It may be appropriate to take your own advice .

You seem like a smart lady . Watch the forecast daily and get out if needed . Stay safe to you and all Floridians .

yup X2. hang tough!!

on the bright side..at least you don't have a bunch of haters from the neighboring State, saying things like, "I can't wait until you all break off and fall into the ocean", or "hey, you choose to live there". (<--which I got from a PPOT member..hahah..)

hahah...(I don't even bring up earthquake discussions with Arizona people anymore)

do what the authorities suggest. be safe and best of luck. I understand the PTSD related to natural disasters all too well.

It is real.

My son called on his way back to Norfolk after he and his sister, and many others, brought supplies, gens, saws and will to help in Aiken. He said there was an initial, as he described it, residents just in irons, not sure what to do.

A day or two in and every body was back from the edge and ready to go.

Neat thing. He and my daughters beau helped a lady clear her lawn and horse pasture. She was very grateful and said she has an old Silverado they could use to move debris at her place and others if they could get it started.

They used it for four days, complete game changer.

Nothing has changed...the kids are all right.

BTW, I look at water every day...I stay for a 2, bolt for a three depending on the storm track. We have everything we need either digitized or in four bug out bags...I am not staying to protect "stuff". Wind knocks things over, water eradicates.

The insurance rates were high in Florida, now they will be insane. We will all be paying more for insurance to keep the insurance companies in business.

One of our customers live in Florida in the panhandle. His home insurance has a 100,000 deductible, and he is paying over 20K per year in insurance. He know it will go up soon and his area has been fine.

I feel for the residents. Having everything one owns destroyed would be devastating.
