Vinyl siding question (and poll)

I want y'all's opinions. I need to replace the vinyl siding on the gable end of my house. Things is, I can't find an exact match. At least not without buying an entire box for $400 when I only need six pieces. My thinking is the awning will separate the old, and new siding, so close enough is okay. But how close is the trick. Is color or profile more important? Let me know your thoughts in the above poll.

A pic would be helpful . But if an awning will separate old from new I would think that gives you quite a bit of color/style leeway . What color are you trying to match ?

Here's some photos that may help.

The gable above the awning needs replacing.

This is the profile on my house, but no one has the matching color unless it's devoid of grain.

This is the other profile. I can get it in the matching color & grain.

Go with the same profile but, add a pop of color instead of trying to match the rest of the siding. It’s begging for some contrast. Stand out instead of blend in.

Based on the pic I don't think it matters too much . That awning is a large visual break between lower and upper siding . Or as already suggested go with a different color up top , maybe something that ties in with the awning and front door . You have options .

What is on the other gable end ? If you are forced to buy a box of siding maybe do both ends as a freshen up project .

With the awning, I'd go with a standard double four in the first pic and not worry much about the grain in the siding matching. The second one you have pictured is Dutch lap siding. The other option is to buy some vinyl shake and do an accent on the gable. OR take the siding from below, move it up to fix the gable and do an accent on the wall below the awning. I could spend your money in all sorts of ways on this project. Get some Vinyl board and batten and accent the top or bottom. Lots of ways I tell ya!

My eyes don't work well but isn't that siding just white??

Can you take some from the back of the house that matches and replace it something else?

We often use board and batton in gables, like this:

I'd do white to match your trim.

If you could find a good siding company....they could replace the siding and then get it painted to match the rest of it. May not be an exact match, but probably close enough if you got the right peoples. That's the key....finding the right contractors.

Get on the phone and start calling around, is my suggestion.

Too bad there's a big vent right in the middle. That gable end is begging for a sunburst!
(Sorry, I know that doesn't answer your question!)

I like this idea. I'll research it some.

Yup, it's Colonial White. Finding it is proving difficult. That's probably because it's literally on over a million homes in SWF.

2 ideas:

If you can get your color and profile still, hit up some installers, they may have a few pieces and you won’t need to buy a whole box.

Go a different route completely, different color in the profile of your choice. Like a feature wall. Make it look on purpose.

I’d go all Miami. Put some pastel color up there that compliments, but does not clash with, your green awning and door. The hue is not as important as the value. Plus, if you stay on the cool side (vs warm side) it’ll look really classy, like deco.

I just remembered certainteed has a way to visualize different colors & products on your pic:

Or use a PS alternative which has a slider or color pick ball.
CB/70SAT has it

Nah. The best thing would be to take the 911 into the snooty Art Deco districts of southern Florida.

Spend the 400. In a month you won’t care.
Looking at something that doesn’t match never goes away.

The "Once in a decade" has already gone by.
The house has survived..
So have you..

Spray a little tiny bit of diluted bleach on dirt underneath.
(Because of the wash from up-hill)
Put a fan across the crawl-space.
Make it better.

That outcrop space above is yours to chose from. I'd suggest the colors be complimentary.
