I bought a new farm truck yesterday…
This summer I broke the frame on our bale trailer. It’s a 16’ triple axle gooseneck trailer with a hydraulic tilt deck and a bale rack. It’s a big screw around to replace a frame rail and it has mobile home 14.5” tires that are shot and is just generally a POS.
I started looking for a replacement gooseneck trailer and came across a truck for about 1/2 what I was willing to pay for a new (to me) trailer. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() It’s a 53 Ford F600, it runs. The brakes need work. I’m going to make it stop, make it safe, and probably upgrade the window maker 20” Firestone RH5° wheels to 19.5” motorhome wheels, rebuild the deck, and replace the seat with a seat from the middle row of a Chev Suburbon or Tahoe. My bale rack should fit on the 16’ deck. Oh, and it has a tilt deck, the hydraulic pump is missing but the pto and the rest of the hydraulics all appear to be there.

Nice score. It's also great to see a truck with a flathead still in thre mix. A friend bought a Chevy flatbeed last year for $2,500 in very good shape.

Love it! We had a 63 or 64 International that was fantastic until the barn collapsed in it. All the kids learned to shift on it. Enjoy!

Looks like fun!
I had a '53 Ford wagon with the 8BA flathead for a while. I learned (the hard way) that the push rod that runs the fuel pump off the cam can wear and the fuel pump slowly stops working. It's why a lot of them have electric fuel pumps. Your truck could have the 255 Merc engine (Ford put it in "some" trucks - in the US. I don't know about Canadaland). Good on you if it does!

Glad you found a useful toy. Thanks for putting the wheel replacement on the top of the priority list. Those things were hateful. I am amazed at the condition of old trucks that have had the good fortune to be used where salt was what you put in your food. My brother who farmed near Kitscoty had his FIL's early '50s GMC on the farm. It had been repainted and had a motor job, but that old truck hauled a lot of grain over the decades.
