Metal intake cover- paint or powder coat ?
Hey guys I bought a metal intake cover similar to this one for my LS equipped S10 pickup . I want it to be white . Would you DIY with high heat rattle cans or have it powder coated ?

If you have base/clear paint in stock Id paint it. If not powder coat would probably cost less than buying paint.

Look for a gun shop that does cerakote or ask a member of the board named Shaun.

Tough call. How about painting it orange?

Paint. All the custom stuff on my LS engine is painted. It’s all held up fine.
Only the frame is powder coated. |

My plan is white to match the exterior. Then install a red chevy bowtie decal on the front of the cover that goes over the throttle body . That will match the red bowtie on the front grill . Just a clean look that hides the ugly Vortec intake manifold .

Did he say he could match the color of your exterior? If so, I have to think that would be a good reason for the price increment.
Just talking here...... I like powder coat "factories".. They sandblast and coat relatively inexpensively. They are not boutiques. Basic colors. Here's the one I have used nearby just for a visual of the facility. It's in a moderately rural Ohio town which keeps the price tolerable. However, not a lot of customer specific service. The lady says put your trunk full of metal right there and I'll make a tag. Is it greasy, that will be extra? Let's see, $220 plus tax. Come back next week, Wednesday. https://www.google.com/maps/uv?pb=!1s0x8837290e7b726719%3A0xc7a388bcbd9c8e7b!3 m1!7e115!4s%2Fmaps%2Fplace%2FcANAL%2BFULTON%2BPOWD ER%2BCOATING%2F%4040.865356%2C-81.5699576%2C3a%2C75y%2C47.6h%2C90t%2Fdata%3D*213m 4*211e1*213m2*211s199JiASPyc7ZHvRC6MLlXQ*212e0*214 m2*213m1*211s0x8837290e7b726719%3A0xc7a388bcbd9c8e 7b%3Fsa%3DX%26ved%3D2ahUKEwiAo6DivOiJAxVfEFkFHeM-MZgQpx96BAgREAA!5scANAL%20FULTON%20POWDER%20COATIN G%20-%20Google%20Search!15sCgIgAQ&imagekey=!1e2!2s199JiASPyc7ZHvRC6MLlXQ&cr=le_a7&hl=en&ved=1t%3A206134&ictx=111

Do something cheap to make sure you like it. If it doesn't last spend some money on powder coat to make it more durable.
Or just take it to the powder coater and tell him to do it with his next white project, that should save you some money.

Update: I ended up buying one can each of Rustoleum white engine enamel and clear coat . Both supposedly good for 600 degrees . I used the entire can of white and half the can of clear . I think I am going to add a Chevy red bowtie decal to the area above the throttle body . Clean but gives a little color pop . I am happy with the results .
