Right now it's not open to the public. They are trying to get other prop houses and WB and Universal to buy up some of the unique and NLA stuff to keep it as available rentable inventory for film and TV.

When it does go to auction (most likely after the first of the year) it will be run by these guys: https://rlspear.com/upcoming-auctions/

When the stuff does sell I'm sure you'll see it at the next Rose Bowl Swap Meet with a 500% markup.

The Prophouse that I got the Longmire desk from is now auctioning off the rest of the stuff. Shows came in to by stuff for their sets, now the rest is for sale to the public.

Auction link here: https://bid.rlspear.com/Public/Auction/AuctionItems?AuctionId=Vs7zHU%2fgnYi4suYchwANCQ%3d %3d&totalItems=ixT3xOqO74HWT6G56WyHCw%3d%3d&viewtypeId=lJcZNvWR1ahMAdw4fXV00Q%3d%3d&filter=ajBmiK%2b33KkMkTDWtuuLmg%3d%3d

Jeez.
I looked at the auction site. Lots of cool stuff.
Fortunately, WI is just a little too far to come from to pick up....

Stupid question: how does the prop house work? Movie maker rents stuff from them, then gives it back when they’re done filming? Producer tells somebody what they need for a set and that somebody goes out and locates the stuff?

You have permanent sets (Main character's home and workplace) and swing sets (diner, bar, police station).

Your set dressing for permanent sets is either bought or put on production rental for run of the season from a prop house.

Swing sets are rented for the episode (usually a week) and returned.

Prop houses are usually specialized. Commercial furniture (office, lobby), domestic furniture (home, patio), medical, laboratory, sci-fi, police and fire, cleared artwork for filming etc.

Faux Library specialized in traditional and contemporary furniture, lightweight books (foam core) and smalls or sometimes referred as "tchotchkes" (desk dressing, lamps, sculptures, mementos, etc).

After looking at the site, I sent the link to my daughter. She is in Sedona following her last stint bar-tending on the stadium hole at the WM Phoenix Open. She cleared over 10k for the 4 days.

She loved it but called me a "Rat Bastard" for the second time in her life

There are lots of really cool artifacts in that auction. I really like the Zenith TV, radio, and turntable cabinet, it is really cool.

The pandemic and then the labor strikes took their toll. Now he's had some health issues and is going to have to sell the business. It's a major blow to Set Decorators, he has some great stuff and they're going to lose another valuable resource. This isn't stuff you can get from Amazon or Home Goods.

But one's misfortune is another's good luck and I am finally getting the one piece he had that I wanted.

The desk from the office of Sherriff Walter Longmire...

The funny thing is I was the one who procured the desk for the pilot episode, it's from the turn of the century, very rare and solid wood. Weighs a ton and it's all mine!
Just a little bit of an update. I was watching TV the other day and lo and behold my desk was also featured as another LEO's desk, no other than Steve McGarrett of "Hawaii 5-0".

It was his office desk in the first season, not sure of later seasons I'll have to check...

Wow, that's crazy! You've got a hell of a thing there in that desk. Part of the show business family, nearly royalty.

What’s really crazy is that our phones do almost everything that does and more.
I too would love to have that desk.
